I promised you guys the recap. I got some good ones.

We had a chef’s tasting menu at 5 pm (Bistro Romano for the Philly guys). We got an Uber back to the hotel around 7:30 to change. Watched Jazmine Sullivan perform the nation anthem and Meek Mill hype the crowd in the room. On the Uber to The Bank I couldn’t get on xfinity because xfinity sucks, so I had to follow on the app for the Altuve run and then the Schwarbomb.

We get to the park right at the beginning of the 2nd, get some swag, and then take the elevator to the Hall of Fame club along the first base side. Phillies having trouble capitalizing. They get Gurriel in the rundown. Pena’s homer was right in my line of sight. Then the dipshit DelCo runs out on the field and fucks up Alvarez’s mojo. Speaking of DelCo, there’s a trio of drunk-ass DelCos right in front of us. So Alvarez hits the guy after the dipshit, then the Assholes push another run across. But then the bottom of the 8th! Get some men on. Push one across! Apple Watch is warning of 90 decibels. Schwarbs up, gets his pitch, fucking right at Mancini. Do we boo, the guy had cancer. Duck it, we boo Mancini anyway.

Hold them scoreless, the we got the bottom of the 9th. Is this going to be my second playoff walk-off? One out, Realmuto deep… fuck. The West Chester kid caught it. We got Harper. He’s due for the tying bomb, but then he gets hbp. Castellanos is the last chance, Dammitt. Taos it right to fucking Pena. Ugh.

I waited about 5 minutes in my seat before heading up. I get a photo with Dan Baker, the Phillies and Eagles PA announcer for 50 years. Tell him we’ll get them Saturday night, and then we’re undefeated in Game 7s. I repeat that to people on the ramps going down. People in good spirits. Being massive underdogs means we’re playing with house money. That’s what it seems.

So my wife hates taking subways, so we walk to Live, a hotel-casino in the Sportsplex. (It’s where the tunnel that the guys from Always Sunny found). Surge pricing is banging us, $80 back to Center City. So be it. So we walk towards the valet station. In the distance I see a Houston couple. He’s wearing a full Astros catcher’s uniform: shin guards, chest protector, catcher’s mitt, even the mask up on the crown of his head. His woman is wearing a woman’s Astros jersey with pants, high stirrups, standard Texas big hair and boob job. We wait by a light pole, and that couple is heading our way for their Uber. We hear him admonish his woman “Put phone away now.” Did I hear that right? He then more forcefully. “Put. Phone. Away. Now.” When he goes past, I see he has his own name on the back, unless there’s a former Astros catcher named “Mills”.

Which is now all I can hear. Put. Phone. Away. Now! We were trying to think what drug would cause a person to speak Tarzan. Maybe it’s just alcohol. He then gets loud, and the PPO (who clearly drew the short stick at the station) is doing a surprisingly calm taking control of the situation. Why yes, Astros catcher is white, why do you ask?

Like I said, I’m pretty chill. I watched my team lose a World Series on a walk-off home run; I have plenty of scar tissue. If they win tonight, like I said, the Phillies are undefeated in Game 7s. They’ve never actually played in a Game Seven. So fuck it. Let’s do this. PUT PHONE AWAY NOW!!

I didn't use to hate the Astros. I enjoyed the ribbing they took for the cheating scandal, but didn't partake. Now, I can't fucking stand this team.

I was writing that right after the Maldonado "HBP". And after watching Framber overreact after every damn call. Even though Pena and Yordan just killed us there, it's not really them I can be mad at. I knew it was coming, but I was hoping Tomson would leave Wheeler in and just let him fall on that sword. That was a very unsurprising HR.

With the exception of the seven year deal the Astros gave Altuve when he was 27 years old, there's apparently an unwritten mandate that they do not offer deals greater than five years. If that's true, I admire them for that, because in order to do that, you've got to know you're as good as any team in the league at developing your in-house talent.
