it still is the best place to get news and real-time analysis and will probably be that for the near future. but man, it's hard to see how the user experience isn't going to keep getting worse
My son is on Tumblr, he's got 25k followers.

But he still likes Twitter. He reports that he's seeing weird stuff, like broken threads, or stuff being reposted from years back... Glitches in the matrix, I guess.

I use Tweetlogix instead of Twitter (although I do use Twitter for the site I write for and it's been garbage for at least 12-18 months) and the experience through that app hasn't changed.

US should just go balls out in this game. With Iran getting three points this morning, there is now no difference whether the US loses or draws England, they would still need to beat Iran. So go get the win and lead the group!

This first half is fascinating. Years ago the local library had a bunch of DVDs that the English FA put out of national team games with no TV commentary, but rather used for teaching tactics. I would love to hear coaches talk about the US defensive approach and how the teams are trying play out of the back.

For most this is probably not as entertaining as game as others but I like the chess match of this (and often in other sports).

Great to see the US play with so much freedom. This is like a free game for them.

I’d like to think these Spanish-speaking announcers are wondering why they couldn’t get a shot off on that last attack.

There’s really nothing more frustrating than watching the USMNT.

Yeah that was stupid. They could have even sent Turner up into the box.

Agreed. We were the better team on the day and fashioned more of the dangerous chances. Weston has to get that one in target. Of course an early goal changes the tenor of the game, but we were always able to hold them at bay.

Win against Iran and we are through. I would have taken that at the start, I’ll take it today. If we can’t beat Iran we don’t deserve to advance anyway. Given politics that game will be TENSE, and I am here for it.

100%

As a neutral (okay, cheering for England) I can say that was a very impressive performance.

The English looked (as they so often do at the World Cup or the Euros) completely average.

Us england ref was great. Can't leave it to refs next game. Pedal down. Look for 3-4. Turner was good in possession. He only looked long once I remember.

Agreed. Going into the match, I was scared Wes and Sergiño would pick up second yellows, but this ref let a lot go, and it never felt like a concern.

I know England wasn’t pressing and it sure felt like Grealish could have done some work if allowed, but that’s about as good as I’ve ever felt we looked relative to competition. Can’t wait for a far less aggressive approach against Iran when we need a front-foot showing like this.

I was at a really big watch party (easily 60 people - all the kids are home!) and it was an absolutely nervy, but extremely fun game as a US fan. We had them on the backfoot when we regained possession... Lots of highly technical/skillful play all over the park.

My only beef with GGG is that once it was clear they weren't going to score 3+ goals, a draw is really not a great result. You score a goal, you can sit back. But playing the ball into the corner at the end? That's just not understanding the math at that point.

It's a lesson not to judge a ref from where he is from. The ref yesterday from Venezuela is one of the best in the world. He's expected to go deep into the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Brazillian ref in the POL-KSA match is garbage.

Awesome.

Mexico were so negative. Hoping for two draws then beat Saudi. I'm not sure they can even beat Saudi now.

Teams like Mexico are just set up to fail. Coaching is shit. Let's not start playing until we go down a goal. Against Poland too. Never get the first goal

How long would it take for Mexico to hit their necessary goal diff against Saudi Arabia? 300:00 enough?

I'm taking the Saudi's, they'll be salivating at the prospect of beating such a weak Mexican team to ensure qualification

Disappointing for sure. Don't know how many they need but I'm a Mexican next week. Problem for them is Saudi arat looked tough from what I saw.

No it enough said about haji wright and Shaq Moore. Not sure they influenced the game all that much but they played. Wtf? Right call sure but how that guy has the confidence to call on them in got to have it no idea. Bit of belichick in him. Trust what you see I assume. How about that for black folks soccer. Major USA advantage is the diversity of the country. That's gonna win them a cup eventually. Super proud I'd say. Gonna take the kid out of school and watch the game. Goose bumps last time Donovan on the putback?

We're at the halfway point of the group stage, 24 out of 48 matches and it's been a really clean tournament.

There's been only one red card and it wasn't violent, just a crazy reckless keeper that came 30 yards out of his box.

And remarkably, there have been no own goals!
