It took me a while. Think of the lyrics to the theme from Fame and it will make more sense. I laughed out loud when it hit me.

It's been big news in Toronto for a week or so.

Leafs Legend Borje Salming

Hero of my youth, my favourite player as a kid. Best gift I got for my bar mitzvah was a Leafs #21 shirt. 16 years as a Leaf - very often the only good player on brutal teams.

Saddest part is that it was ALS that just crushed him. He made his last appearance in Toronto at a pregame ceremony with other Leafs legends. It is just heartbreaking to watch. His team mate Darryl Sittler had to lift Salming's arm up to acknowledge the crowd...

Let me know when it's no longer too soon for "The quarterback is toast."

Seriously, the giddiness in that line delivery is terrific.

He was 90? So he would have been in his 40s when I was watching the show. This is actually the opposite of the Cheers/Traveling Wilburys situation, since I seem to remember him looking pretty young.

You’re right, Rass. That was in bad taste.

Anyway, I think I remember people thinking Cheers would fall off after losing Shelley Long. If anything, she added a much better foil to Sam.

Mine (and misterd's) was a Kirstie Alley joke, too. I can't remember what you wrote but I also don't remember being scandalized. I'm sure you were fine!

Reffed Tyson-Holyfield II, the fight better known as the one where Holyfield victoriously left the ring with two chunks out of his ears.

ETA: totally forgot until I clicked that he also did the fight where Oliver McCall broke down and when the guy with the fan-parachute landed in the ring.
