That’s Tua’s third concussion this year. Not good.

Not sure if it's the desert, but he will be leaving the team and not even be on the sideline for the last two weeks.

I remember when a guy could throw 35 picks in 15 games and still start the next season.

Unsolicited fantasy grievance, $2,000 pot...
Starting lineup: Mahomes, CMC, Ekeler, Pollard, D-Hop, Godwin, Hollywood, Kelce, Bass, Cowboys
Went 23-5 (we play 2 games per week), 240 more total points scored than the second dude.
Lost in 2nd round after a bye to the 6th seed! The Trace McSorley thing wouldn't have even mattered either. I actually started Pickens over Hollywood because of that and still lost by 50. It's such a random, cruel game when you can't play defense.

Dan Marino threw 23 picks in 1986 and 1988 and they not only brought him back, they let him sell gloves on TV!
Farv had 23 picks in consecutive years and played for a decade after that.

Where does Carr end up? As a false messiah for the Jets or as the youngest of the Colts ongoing parade of stop gaps?

Derek Carr is a victim of the elite or bad QB mentality. he's neither. and much closer to good than bad.

Re: NFL 2022 week 17 - Wentz the Carr crashes into the Bridge(water)
If I had to choose a QB going forward, I’d much rather have White and his $2.5 million salary over Carr at $40 million. Carr is not a long term answer, and even at a reduced salary, he will make way more than he is worth. I just don’t know the answer. Jets won’t have a low enough pick to draft a rookie starter, and the fans can’t deal with another 3 years of false hope in waiting for a high pick to develop. Jimmy G might be available, but he will be way overpriced, too. Just not enough good QBs for this league.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 8:16 am lol no, not at this point

So did I. In my league, 6 seeds have won like half the championships (at least 3 out of 8 without looking it up).Jerloma wrote: ↑Wed Dec 28, 2022 10:46 pm Unsolicited fantasy grievance, $2,000 pot...

I would be thrilled if one of the teams I don't like traded for Derek Carr. Ever since his injury pressure just affects him more than most other QBs.

Re: NFL 2022 week 17 - Wentz the Carr crashes into the Bridge(water)
Looking at Mike White and....man I don't know, he's in such a hurry to get through his progressions that it leads to way too many checkdowns and his ball placement is terrible, but I still just do not think Derek Carr is all that good.
EDIT: I will say though that the Jets offense does not have a lot of easy throws. These WRs could not find space against the Vikings' zone, which surprised me. I think Derek Carr might actually be bad if he were on NYJ.

Re: NFL 2022 week 17 - Wentz the Carr crashes into the Bridge(water)
If/when Carr is released, he won't be making $40M any more. He'd be an upgrade for at least 10-12 teams and might be amenable to a short-term or even one year "prove it" for less than league average deal since it would set him up for a bigger deal down the road. If I'm a team like the Jets or Commies that might be a QB away from being a playoff contender, you have to consider it.

I feel like Testaverde could’ve had a hall of Fame career if he started in a better situation because young Vinny Green Balls had some serious physical talents.
I also think that Jody Harrington could’ve been at least serviceable in a better environment, so feel free to take my opinions with a whole shaker of salt.

Yeah but football actually was defensive back then. Can't be throwing 3 INTs in a game in today's NFL with all the offensive advantages. Back then you could hit defenseless receivers on slants or take then down by the neck.

Re: NFL 2022 week 17 - Wentz the Carr crashes into the Bridge(water)
Or can you? I feel a disconnect with modern coaches being more willing to go for it on 4th down and less willing to tolerate interceptions. I get why it is bad to throw a pick 6 ball into the flat, but most INTs are just punts of varying length.degenerasian wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 10:44 am Yeah but football actually was defensive back then. Re: NFL 2022 week 17 - Wentz the Carr crashes into the Bridge(water)
That's true but in a more low-scoring game, those INTs/punts of varying lengths would just result in turnovers or punts back. But the way teams move the ball now, those more often turn into points. You want to limit possessions these days, thus going for it on 4th down more. Last week, the Patriots were down 4 and trying to score a TD at the latest possible time (running down clock) to not allow any time for Burrow to have the ball last. They ended up fumbling and losing.Rex wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 12:22 pmOr can you? Re: NFL 2022 week 17 - Wentz the Carr crashes into the Bridge(water)
Agree for the most part. I think coaches get too conservative on 3rd and long especially when a lot of times "forcing" a pass 30-40 yards downfield is maybe a better option because of the way PI penalties are enforced in the NFL.Rex wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 12:22 pmOr can you? Re: NFL 2022 week 17 - Wentz the Carr crashes into the Bridge(water)
If more than one team wants him, he will likely get overpaid, and over too long of term. As already mentioned, he is somewhere in the middle talent-wise. Like Kirk Cousins, if he is protected well, and not in a pressure situation, he can put up great stats. Otherwise, things can go downhill in a hurry.brian wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 9:27 am If/when Carr is released, he won't be making $40M any more. Carr will likely end up making what he's worth on the open market or through a trade restructure. the No. 16 QB in total cash in 2022 is Dak Prescott at $20M. Carr is No. 13 at $25M

the whole point of playing football has been to limit possessions. it's not a new phenomenon because offenses are betterdegenerasian wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 12:38 pmThat's true but in a more low-scoring game, those INTs/punts of varying lengths would just result in turnovers or punts back. and regarding the three interceptions in a game thing, there have been 20 such instances in the league this year and the list includes two of the top three MVP candidates at this point. while Carr is one of only two players (Matt Ryan) with two of those games, pretending that his second three-interception game of the season is the reason for his benching is laughable

(See 2nd tweet below) If you follow AP sportswriter Josh Dubow on Twitter, you know he’s been hilariously trolling/rebutting Carr/raider fanboys with facts and statistics all season. I also mourn its end.

I didn't do a good job expressing myself in my first Mike White comment (forget who said it, but you really do need to say his full name for some reason, is it the two single syllables?), I didn't mean to say White is actually better, but a better options for a young team building. Can spend a lot more to buy other pieces with a no-name 5th round pick with 4(?) games played. Carr, you know what you are getting. And maybe they make the playoffs with Carr assuming Hall recovers well, but Carr is never going to be good. I don't follow him closely, but he seems really streaky. He can look really good for a couple games, then look fuckawful at times.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 1:24 pmthat's different than better, however. and even league average and above QBs are worth a lot more than people realize (and it gets into the whole point of the elite/bad thing)The Sybian wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 8:29 amIf I had to choose a QB going forward, I’d much rather have White and his $2.5 million salary over Carr at $40 million. That level of play is actually a decent descriptor of the level of play you'd get from the currently 31-year-old QB we are discussing! This is a team that would easily be in the playoffs with Carr-level QB play all season. The Sybian wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 3:41 pmI didn't do a good job expressing myself in my first Mike White comment (forget who said it, but you really do need to say his full name for some reason, is it the two single syllables?), I didn't mean to say White is actually better, but a better options for a young team building. Maybe this means something about the physical nature of this 49er team, or maybe it’s just a random statistical anomaly. Opponents are 0-13 in week after they played S.F.

The titans bringing in Josh Dobbs two days ago and starting him tonight (and next week apparently) is wild. Malik Willis must be a project to end all projects at QB. And, while we are here, really bad planning by the Titans to not have another option at QB this year at back-up if Willis was THIS much of a project...
