not sure why that would matter at all. QBs who get hit when their arms are going forward regularly don't have control of the ball as their arm continues to go forward on clear incompletions

I’ll just put this here because the conversation happened while we were watching the Eagles/Giants game, but while discussing JJ Watt’s retirement this jerkdick at this party says, “yeah he retired and it could’ve been because of a heart issue that could’ve been caused by the vaccine we don’t know?!”

Hell of an actress too. I saw her on Broadway around ten years ago and thought she was going to go places.

I’m legislating intent. Mahomes tried to get cute and fumbled the ball. QBs getting jacked isn’t really analogous except that it’s why the rule was an incomplete pass.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 9:20 pmnot sure why that would matter at all. lol, no he didn't
you can't legislate intent outside the framework of the rules. he made the play he did in that moment because he saw at the last second that the pass he wanted to throw wasn't a good idea with the defenders over the middle and just turfed it instead. please take it from someone who has seen basically every snap Mahomes has played that he does this same move on a not infrequent basis if he realizes at the last second he doesn't want to throw the ball because he knows it'll be an incomplete pass

If pessimism was food, I'd have closed the buffet down.
45 years of bitter disappointment and grinding failure makes it impossible to be positive during the playoffs.

Joe Burrow really is outstanding, he might be the best QB in the NFL right now.
Re: NFL Week 20 - Divisional Round
I guess I’m leaning Buffalo here as far as rooting interests go but was that overturned TD catch really all that controversial? Ball was moving all over the place.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: NFL Week 20 - Divisional Round
It was a catch for the Eagles in the Super Bowl with Troy Vincent hanging out in the replay booth.

Not even remotely. THIS is controversial.

Re: NFL Week 20 - Divisional Round
What I saw was Mahomes lose control of the ball. The rule insists it be an incompletion (and I understand that), but he also fumbled it. That’s my recollection anyway.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 8:55 amlol, no he didn't

Lol. So they should change the rule because it was called incorrectly against the Patriots?

I don't even know the details of this perceived disrespect but I feel like you have to start preparing for an AFCC at a neutral stadium more than a week in advance.

I get to be that guy. been a LONG time coming. That overturn TD was bullshit. He had three feet down. Regardless. And the team and fanbase was salty as fuck over the neutral site thing because it was the NFL itself selling those tickets. After boning the bengals on not considering playing today's game at a nuetral site.
Regardless, this is a a first. 52 years of life and 47 that I can recall rooting for that team and to win a playoff game on the road in that fashion while decided underdogs is not something I've seen before. So, holy shit.

in my lifetime, the bengals have 10 playoff wins. 5 of those have come in the last two years. Thank god for burrow.
Re: NFL Week 20 - Divisional Round
No offense but as a neutral observer the overturn was clearly correct. Obvious interpretation of the Calvin Johnson Rule.tennbengal wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 7:10 pmI get to be that guy. been a LONG time coming. That overturn TD was bullshit. He had three feet down. the calvin johnson rule still sucks.
Re: NFL Week 20 - Divisional Round
The NFL will never get that catch thing right but I think according to the rule, even if he has possession with both feet in, if he loses possession through the process of the catch, after regaining possession he has to reestablish 2 feet inbounds. I don't even really know at this point though. The Clement catch in the SB was the same circumstance instead it's unclear as to whether he bobbled it or has just switching hands.tennbengal wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 7:10 pmI get to be that guy. been a LONG time coming. Im happy for you though, seriously. It's a great feeling, especially with a young team.

Re: NFL Week 20 - Divisional Round
Aside from the NFL setting up boilerplate cancelable hotel rooming blocks for next Saturday night for the two teams (likely a part of the decision to have the game in Atlanta), there's not that much to do, early or late. They basically would have had to paint the end zones/midfield next week and hang generic "AFC Championship Game" decor on the walls circling the field in the stadium. Plenty of time for those tasks.
