Every time I hear anything from Alpinisms, esp "Half Asleep", I decide I need to go back and listen to all of School of Seven Bells albums and I never do it.

Finally got around to watching the Ken Burns doc on Country Music and can tell I'm going to be spending a lot of time over the next few months filling in some gaps in my knowledge.

I really enjoyed the series. And I’ve always been a fan of the theme song, Wagon Wheel (originally by Old Crow Medicine Show)

Love that they're previewing three songs, one with each of them as lead singer.

The Phoebe one sounds Dessner produced.

ETA - Nope. Rick Rubin.

No, I'm not here to mention the new DMB album or U2's latest project of remaking all their popular songs...I've finally decided to pay for streaming music. Amazon Prime Music changed a lot and now sucks. I've had a free Spotify account forever and that seems to be the easist choice to simply upgrade. I would just like o hear songs on demand which Prime Music doesn't do anymore and get back to listening to complete albums (I said this with vinyl but that never happened). Any suggestions to go with something other than Spotify or are there any discounts/deals I can take advantage of? (I don't use Apple)

I love Spotify FWIW. Not sure you can beat the price point and features. I like to make playlists but their curated/AI ones are usually surprisingly good and I find a lot of new stuff I wouldn't have come across before.

We reached the same breaking point for the same reason, and despite the fact that it was Amazon's dicking around that precipitated the need for a change, we went with them because as existing Prime subscribers it was a little cheaper than the other options and one my kids already had a bunch of playlists built up there.

I got a DVR of the Grammys on while I'm working, and Bad Bunny is leading off the show. I don't know his music, and he is singing in Spanish so I have no idea what he's rapping about. But part of his dance crew are wearing giant papier-mache heads, and I certainly approve of that.

I went from not really paying attention and/or saying certain parts were dumb to "OH MY GOD SHUT UP THAT'S RAKIM" pretty quickly. My pivot got mocked accordingly by the kids.

Funny I love Dwight's version (I bought the soundtrack back in the day just because of that song) and I tend to not like Elvis songs done by Elvis, but I really like covers of his songs (this is also true of Fleetwood Mac songs, but I despise Fleetwood Mac rather than just not like.)

At some point I want to make a list of bands/songs that remind me of very specific places. Like Foals ("Spanish Sahara") came on KEXP just now and that makes me think of walking into and through Alewife Station in Cambridge. This list would be very valuable to no one except me unless something crazy happens that vaults me into the national spotlight, then it can be monetized as part of walking/subway tour of the Boston area.

I went with Spotify. I'm more spiteful than you I guess. Was great for my flight downloading albums before losing wifi. Might even have to discover some new music.

When you factor in context like Jones’ career arc at the time, his alcoholism and his relationship with Tammy Wynette it might be the best song of all-time, period.

It would be like Miguel Cabrera hitting 50 homers this year without any steroids. An all-time legend who needs no grand farewell who provides a massive one anyway.

And George Jones didn't want to record it.

From Wikipedia:
In Bob Allen's biography of the singer, Sherrill states, "He thought it was too long, too sad, too depressing and that nobody would ever play it. He hated the melody and wouldn't learn it."
