Spent the New Year's weekend in a cabin in the Gila wilderness in New Mexico with my wife and friends. Last night it snowed like 8 inches and this morning we woke up to a gorgeous sight....but a very clear reminder of why I retired away from snow.

We were in Santa Fe and walked out after our last meal to the first snowfall we saw the entire trip. It was crazy to leave when it was 28 and pull into our driveway 14 hours later and it was 74.

We are supposed to fly to Albuquerque today to see my parents. Looked at the Southwest app and my first flight was delayed to a point I would miss my connection in Phoenix. But just before I phoned Southwest to deal with it, they changed the flight schedule back to the original “on time”. Tons of rain and high winds here. I hope the flight stays on time and I get out and make my connection!

Holy crap it's been a snowy year so far in the mountains. We're not even halfway through the season and I'm reaching the point where I can't life the snow high enough to get it out of the way.

I was skiing at Killington many years ago and they announced the windchill at the top of the mountain as below -40. Ski patrol pulled everyone off the mountain if they had any exposed skin. I took a lift to the highest point and the wind was insane. I stood up straight and spread my arms and let the wind push me up hill. Great day, as the slopes were empty, but it was super icy.

people freaking out about it being 7F in Buffalo today - city schools closed (wind chills are brutal indeed and it's all about not keeping kids waiting outside for the bus or walking home).

I have been forbidden to take the dog out for a walk. Which I understand, but she is nutty at the moment.

Close to 0 (F) mid day tomorrow and close to 40 by Wednesday.

We skied Stowe when the base of the mountain temp was -10. Not sure what the temp was at the top, but probably around what you experienced. Like you said, great day because most folks bailed.

I always say, if you have the proper gear, almost nothing can keep you off the hill. Not fun skiing in whiteout conditions, of course.

I’ve been outside working in -100 windchill. It was unpleasant. Basically can only work for fifteen or so minutes before you have to go in to warm up. Even covered your face gets so numb you lose the ability to form words.

Back home in wyoming, at about 7k ft of elevation. It was brutal.

2 this morning, but the wind died overnight so I tried a run anyway. Other than my fingers (running gloves) I was feeling pretty good and decided I was going to stick it out for at least 3 miles and then my phone died. The battery went from 100 to 0 in less than 20 minutes.

Yeah, I had to do a lot of TV interviews during the Polar Vortex and by far the most challenging thing was that my phone kept dying. Had to remember to keep it inside my coat to fix the issue.

That two weeks SUCKED. And I wasn't in the pit fixing shit. The guys actually said it was better down there... out of the wind and kind of insulated.

have a co-worker who lives/works further north not far from Lake Ontario - he didn't feel a thing. Epicenter was just a little SE of the city.

weird - i felt one exactly like this in Vancouver where it's not a rolling/rumbling thing - more of a BANG. I immediately went to the basement thinking it was the furnace then as i woke up a little i figured probably a quake.

Our dog who will bark ferociously at a leaf... apparently did not even wake up. wtf.

I just got back from camping in the motor home at Jackson Hole. A cozy 9 degrees. We handled it fine, but the RV not so much. Turns out that things break when it’s that cold.

It's in the mid-40s today and it'll be in the mid-50s on Wednesday. It may go slightly below freezing one day in the next two weeks.

It just doesn't feel right.
