Exactly, I was gonna use that exact phrase. "He should've done better" when a guy on the end of a 40 yard sprint misses a whipped in cross by 3 inches. Done better by what, turning into plastic man and extending his leg those extra 2 inches? It's so ubiquitous I don't even really hear it anymore.

Hate to shit on the guy in this context, but, honestly... He could've been less of an asshole, commenting on a bunch of young adults for a living. (And while he's not alone, sucking off college coaches constantly - who are all millionaires - and shitting on players sure didn't sit well with me.)

My god, yes. I can't stand the ex player EPL color guys who talk like the rules of the game haven't changed since Vinnie Jones was allowed to roam free.

Packer was a negative-as-fuck elitist who enjoyed dumping on mid-majors, and yes he made the games unwatchable for several years.

Yeah, my overriding recollection of him was as a guy who always thought a sixth place major conference team was more deserving to be in the tournament than any mid-major conference champ.

Oh yeah...who can forget about him shitting all over mid-majors and George Mason when they went to the Final Four, or calling Allen Iverson a "tough monkey" or when he told two female Duke students who asked to see his press pass before letting him into Cameron Indoor: "You need to get a life. Since when do we let women control who gets into a men's basketball game? Why don't you go find a women's game to let people into?' " (he did apologize for that).

That said...it was great when NBC had the tourney and the lead broadcast team was Al McGuire, Packer, and Dick Enberg. That was high quality stuff.

I had never heard of Television or Marquee Moon until a coworker introduced me to that album (on CD!) about 15 or so years ago. I was blown away, not only by how much I liked it, but by the fact that I hadn't heard of them before. Still love that album.

In my mind, Lou Reed's best era was when Robert Quine was in his band. Saw them in concert and it was one of the most intense shows I have ever seen.

I knew he was Brett Hull's father and a star in his day. That's about all I know about him.

ETA: Ok, physically abusing multiple wives, long history of racism and quoted by a journalist as saying "Hitler had some good ideas, but took things a little too far." Hull said he was misquoted and sued the paper for defamation. One clip said the Canadian skit comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes (loved that show in college) did a segment where he said Darryl Sittler had good ideas. Can't find the clip.

When asked to clarify, Hull said he was down with everything Hitler did except invading France, that took it too far.
