What if I told you I have 4 michelins, plus an extra just in case? Would that change your mind?
And what's easier...making my burgers or GOING TO FUCKING FRANCE?

I'm going to bet I make burgers before I go to France. I'll still need a wine pairing with that recipe.A_B wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 4:19 pmWhat if I told you I have 4 michelins, plus an extra just in case? Would that change your mind?

Re: The Lunch Thread
Mallejos taco from the gas station place that's so good. I had never seen it on a menu and I asked what it was. Dude just told me it's from the front part of the cow, I said, sure I'll try it with my al pastor and barbacoa tacos.
It's a sweetbread taco. And it was pretty good. So that's a first for me I think.

Little early to the hideout so lunch. Asked for fries but Rhea perlman knows what I want before I do. Fried okra. To die for. Who knew.
Re: The Lunch Thread
Yeah well prepared okra is tough to get around here and I always get it at least once when we visit someplace like HHI.

If you’re in Baltimore for dinner, I like this place..
Tell me what you’d order. I’m going tonight. I’m bored at a work thing.

My list needs narrowing, but the falafel, beef tenderloin kebab, sheftalies, and branzini sound good to me.

Huh, never been to a Cypriot restaurant. Seems like a mix of Mediterranean fare (which I love) and those pictures look fantastic.bfj wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 11:52 am If you’re in Baltimore for dinner, I like this place..

Unsurprisingly, looks a lot like Lebanese food. There's a local "chain" called Lebanese Taverna. We lived in an apartment above the DC-based joint. Saw lots of DC "celebs" at that place. Like, sitting next to John Tower and stupid shit like that.
Anyways, that menu looks really cool.

Before the BJ Barham show tonight we're hoping to eat at Loro, an Asian smokehouse started by Aaron Franklin (of Franklin's BBQ in Austin) and James Beard winner Tyson Cole. So many choices!

Re: The Lunch Thread
That's a really interesting menu and I don't think there's anything I wouldn't eat. Like I can't imagine ordering the cod, but I bet the cod is really good. And I'm super curious about having corn fritters and hushpuppies on the menu, like they were they testing and both were too good to be dropped?
Re: The Lunch Thread
I'll definitely let you know about the hushpuppies.mister d wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 3:08 pm That's a really interesting menu and I don't think there's anything I wouldn't eat. Re: The Lunch Thread
We did not get the corn fritters. Ended up with the following:
wonton chips & dip
chicken karaage (holy shit)
green curry hushpuppies
smoked brisket ramen
smoke prime bavette (holier shit)

Made the mistake of looking at their website and all the Instagram pics of their food. So jealous, but I’d be so fucking fat if I lived in Texas between BBQ and Mexican food.

Re: The Lunch Thread
Was going to a place down by campus for lunch and saw a new restaurant: Slim Chickens. Apparently they're all over? I don't think I'd heard of it. Anyone had it? Looks like a Zaxby's/Canes kinda thing.

Re: The Lunch Thread
We have one and it's remained open for years. From what I remember, it's very much like those two but closer to the Zaxby's side. I remember liking it fine, just not close enough to go.

Re: The Lunch Thread
It was awesome. Having the leftovers for dinner tonight. The peach tea glazed pork belly was phenomenal and I've never seen smoked scalloped potatoes as a side.
I have been doing a lot of BBQ eating over the last year or so. I've never been all that into it, but the cravings have stuck around for a while. What I've decided (and am sure I won't stick to) is that I'm done ordering brisket at these places. They're all phenomenal, don't get me wrong, but at this point with how popular it's become here, none of them actually stand out. So it's all stuff unique to the particular place going forward instead of paying $15 1/2 pound of something that tastes as good as the last one.
