fk would i love for the Sabres to make that trade. They've been way way too cautious (yes they got rinsed last night but a) the Bruins and b) the Sabres are good when healthy but razor-thin. They miss Dahlin and Tuch bigtime and that IS their margin for success right now) having been right on that playoff cusp for about 6 weeks now. I'm so of the mindset that you never know the future - if you have a chance, fucking go for it. It wouldn't matter much if they got pasted in the first round - we all know how long it has been for Buffalo and just getting in WOULD be a difference maker - both for the team and this region.

wtf do i know tho, Jordan Greenway is gonna be The Answer.

I wonder if Erik Karlsson will get moved today. I’d love to see the Sharks get a haul of picks and prospects for him.

Underrated part of the deadline is teams that are dead in the water (Flyers) holding onto expiring veterans (JVR, Braun) for [Rob Lowe voice] literally no justifiable reason.

Nice. Ekholm feels like a true difference maker. Probably the happiest I've been about a signing/trade/draft pick in the McDrai era.

Draisaitl scored one of my favorite goals of the year on Friday. Knocked the net off, got up and considerately put it back in place as the play was going on, stood in the corner to receive a pass, waited for somebody to get open, then just fired a shot into a tinytiny window to score. It's equal parts hilarious and amazing.

Then the good vibes ended on Saturday when Jack Campbell gave up 6 goals. The Oilers lost despite a Draisaitl hat trick.

holy hell that was beautiful. what a goddamn shot!

Could be an exciting one tonight - I'll be the guy in the goathead Alex Zhitnik sweater (#44) behind the net the Sabres shoot at 2x.

We could see 15 goals tonight.

Nice. The Oilers were in Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago. I considered going, but decided against it. Glad I did. The Pens got poleaxed. That was the night of the 'Fire Hextall' chants. Hopefully you Sabres fans have better manners tonight.

Though if the Sabres trounce Edmonton then some sort of transitive “Fire Hextall” chant would be appropriate.

HA

I'm not sure any trouncing is going on tonight - one of our 3 reliable Dmen (Samuelson) is out and the Sabres are not the most exciting team in hockey for no reason... :P

(O/U was 7.5, i put 20 on the over!)

of course it was only 3-2 :P

2 crowd comments / complaints:

a. loved seeing so many orange sweaters in the building; i love when there's a significant away crowd at a game, makes it a little spicier...a little more buzz, feels like more is at stake... plus the sheer variety of cool (and/or hilarious) jerseys is just visually fun.

b. i feel like i've said it before but i don't understand/get/like booing. Well... for someone who deserves scorn and shame (e.g. Tony DeAngelo? Dale Hunter if we're going back a few thousand years?). But booing a player because they're great is so weak, and i just don't even understand it. What are you trying to communicate?

if you're trying to knock someone off their game (even if it literally will never work, come on now) come up with some clever chant or literally *anything* else. Every time #97 touched/carried the puck there'd be this din of people just start booing. I hate it. Almost made me happy when he scored (twice!).

(my favourite even tho it cost the Sabres the game was on his second goal - guy in the row in front of us wearing a McDavid sweater just stood with his arms in the air and started yelling "....he's just sooo goood! he's just .... SO! GOOOD!" - i could only say laughing to my daughter "the man is not wrong.")

α I agree. He really is SO GOOD. Ever since the playoffs started last year, he's been on a different level.

α The Penguins had a great win last night. Gave up 4 goals. Jarry was pulled. The 'Fire Hextall' chant was resurrected. And then the Pens scored the next 5 goals and won in overtime.

They're the oldest team in league, with half the team over 30. This roster has 99 problems, but Crosby and Malkin aren't, um, 2. Crosby is still one of the best players in the world, and it's obvious that Malkin is playing with an extra little something the past couple of weeks. They're not going to make a deep run this year, but I'll enjoy watching these guys as long as they're here.

Turned it off at 3-0 and ignored my phone while I forced the kids to watch The Rock and while the movie didn't land with them as well as I would have hoped I was pleasantly surprised when, after Stanley and Carla and the bulldog made their getaway with the biggest secrets of the American government from the past 50 years (circa 1996 or so), I checked the score and saw the Pens won.

The game's three stars:

1. Sidney Crosby
2. Yevgeni Malkin
3. Sean Connery. Or Nic Cage. Whoever the protagonist of that movie was. Or were they both protagonists? I dunno. Let's just give it to Michael Bay.

Yeah, he was a disaster. Him playing NHL23 Franchise mode wasn't good enough.

Last summer Johnny Gaudreau thought he was going to sign in Philly, Hayes thought Johnny was going to sign in Philly…and Philly didn’t even make an offer because of the salary cap. When you have a player of that quality wanting to sign with you, you do what you have to in order to clear cap space.

Instead Fletcher did dumbass stuff like signing Ristolainen to a huge contract.

If you take away all of the goals in which Finns factored into the scoring, then Buffalo wins, 4-3. This is an argument against globalism.

2-7-1 in their last 10? They're doing it right.

San Jose is still fourth in my personal ranking of teams I want to get Bedard, after Montreal, Columbus, and Anaheim. (Then San Jose, followed by Vancouver, Jokerit, the Johnstown Chiefs, Chicago, and Arizona.) No offense, SC, but I want to see him surrounded by at least a little bit of talent.

Funny thing is, in those last ten games, after the first periods, they had the lead four times, and were tied four times. But, only won twice.
