My 15-year-old wants a skateboard. Anyone know anything? Build a board online? Go to the the damn mall? Assume it might be a passing fad but he wants to be cool and we want him to live.

We found a local skate shop (and set a reasonable budget) and let her tell them what she wanted and they helped her put something together.

(she loved it for a couple of months and not sure if she's touched it since)

I'd say figure out if his definition of cool means getting one off the rack or building it himself or what?

I knew it was a blip of a phase for my daughter. She got a really cheap one, not sure where, and never learned to ride it. I think it was a Christmas present, so by the time it was warm out, her interest was gone.

I think every town has a local skate shop. That’s the place I would go. And like everybody else says, start cheap. Because it might just be a phase. It certainly was with my daughter.
