Did the James Joyce Ramble -- a 10K with a starting gong, church bells playing the Chariots of Fire theme, and a ton of people on the course dressed up as James Joyce reading from his books. Ended up with an 8:24 pace.
Next up - Wachuset Mountain Race, 5k up, 5k down with the Wachusett Mountain theme song in my head the entire time.

Had to walk for about 2 minutes...and I missed getting under an hour by about 2 minutes. I thought I was going to go faster going downhill, but I was recovering for the first mile down and the last two miles were trails, nothing technical but I'm a wimp on trails. For the first time, I acheived the Strava Run Climbing Challenge, over 2000 meters in a month. I then proceeded to drink and eat heavily -- first tailgaiting with free snacks from Little Debbie (Devil Dogs) and then more junk at Wachusset Brewery.

Three thousand feet climbing since Tuesday morning, bitches.
(Which really isn't a big deal for real cyclists, and I went *really* slow, but I feel good about it since I got such a late start this year. And I'm fat.)
The top two are from Tuesday; the bottom one is from today.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
As many of you know, Ive had some health issues and whatnot over the past few years. Pretty fucked up stomach which it turns out was almost exclusively alcohol related. But over the past 12 months or so I've really made an effort to cut way back. It's made me feel better and while i've "relapsed" (I haven't officially quit but I often go days/weeks without) I had a blood panel done yesterday and everything...literally every one...of the alcohol related bad numbers are not only better, they are in the normal range or outside of it by just a small percentage. Cholesterol is insanely good, liver function is night and day, etc. All this without changing anything other than a drastic reduction in drinking. Same medications, same amount of activity, just less booze.
I'm still anemic but that has been an issue for a long long time and isn't related to alcohol.
I'm not trying to shame and I'll never be a teetotaler, but it was nice to get some confirmation that making changes is helping. FOr me at least, it was a huge problem that needed addressing. But I'll still have a beer or nine at the next swampup.

That's great news man. Proud of you and am going to try to make it an inspiration. I drink nearly every day and need to stop that.A_B wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 10:29 am As many of you know, Ive had some health issues and whatnot over the past few years. Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Great to hear, AB! I was in a similar boat 17 years ago (while my wife was pregnant with our first). The liver has an amazing ability to repair itself. I was on the verge of permanent liver damage. I told the doctor I wasn't going to fully quit, but willing to seriously cut back. He preferred I quit, but said it might be good enough. Initially had 2 drinks a week, down from an average of 3 most nights. I thought it'd be really difficult, but within a week or two, the cravings eased. If I tried to completely quit, I don't think I would have, and it would have felt like a major sacrifice. I just love beer and whisky too much. Within a few months, my tests were vastly improved, and within a year, I was in the middle of the normal range. Get liver testing done most years, never been an issue since. And now that pot is legal, I don't even like feeling drunk anymore.A_B wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 10:29 am As many of you know, Ive had some health issues and whatnot over the past few years. Nice work, AB the sober! I've gotten to a point where I just don't crave it as much as I used to. Like you, I'll have a beer or nine at the next swampup, but most days I don't feel the pull for it.

Good for you man!
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Nice job, AB.
I've been gaining weight probably from drinking and eating shitty food at work. I keep telling myself to cut down on the drinks but after run drinks are great motivators during the week. Wasn't dunking as easily as I used to on the 8 foot rims in the teachers vs. kids basketball game. Apparently, running shape doesn't always equal overall shape.

Two firsts this week. Traveled to FL for a family vacation. First time I didn’t need a belt extender on a plane. First time I could actually put the tray down, all the way down, in front of me.
I may have teared up.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
There was a new vegan place at the farmers market tonight and they had fried oyster mushrooms (never had them) and I decided to start small and just got a $7 side (in Buffalo sauce) and holy shit that was great and I hope they come back so that can try the sandwich version.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
