Yeah, this has been a concern for me for a while. Though I did manage to get a good pair of Merrell hiking shoes that were on closeout for only $65. I'm thinking I might see if I can get another pair.Johnnie wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 6:29 pm Today is the final day for REI's big yearly sale and I gotta say, the stuff on the shelf is so expensive that the 20%+ discounts don't really make up for it.
It's been a little while since I've gone, but they now have numerous racks full of Vuori bullshit. That was so damn disappointing to see.
And of course my Instagram feed is giving me Vuori ads as I scroll at the moment.

But you get 10% back at the end of the year!
Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
We end up getting a fair amount of REI stuff, mainly because it is 5 minutes away from the house. Curse you, convenience!

We do to, but our neighbour is the general manager of the Denver store so we get some nice coupons...so it's almost reasonably priced.
My mom has been a member since basically the beginning and I'm not sure that she really does much shopping there anymore.

I've been a member since 1989. I still get a fair amount of gear or camping supplies there. Just not clothes.
Though it's not as good as it used to be, their return policy still comes through for us - I was able to return a bike rack that broke about a year after I bought it, and even though I didn't actually do the return until well after the one-year replacement period, they were willing to accept it and give me a new one.

I received an e-mail from Merrill advertising a free sock with a purchase. Not a pair of socks, A sock. There was a deal that I remember from hanging out with my grandfather at a sports store in Randallstown, MD. It was big bin of shoes that said.."Buy one shoe and I will get the 2nd one free." And they meant buy one and you could get the 2nd shoe to make a pair.Giff wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 1:25 pmI received an e-mail from Merrill advertising a free sock with a purchase. And the funny thing is MAGAtards don't even realize this is just a marketing tactic.
They're just so wrapped around the axle about the Culture War™ aspect of what the Gay Agenda™ is allegedly doing that they don't even call out the nakedly capitalist decision to pretend to cater to the demographic.
I just find the whole charade funny.

This recent discussion has spurred me to put our new flagpole to work. Might need a new pride flag at the end of the month, this one is getting noticeably faded.

madness.
on a sorta/kinda related note yesterday at the grocery store i noticed the 6 pack of bagels are 7.75. a standard purchase for us; these were always (well.... *last year*) 6 bucks. my wife was like, ah yeah but that's not that much. .... is it not near a 30% increase?? these little incremental increases absolutely everywhere are killing us. i might just buy 75 bananas each week and call it done, i can't think of anything else that has remained inexpensive.
(i honestly don't know how we can live like this much longer :/ - we rarely go out, i work from home, literally never buy anything for myself (e.g. i haven't bought new clothing outside socks/underwear in probably 4 yrs), car just exploded this week (not literally. but it did just unexpectedly die dramatically on the highway so we have to buy a new car this weekend) and about to have 2 kids in college next year. kinda just hoping for a miracle*. and these $2 bets on Draftkings are NOT working out like the ads keep promising me they will. dammit.)

I'm waiting for a tip screen at the automated checkout in a supermarket. Make that $7.75 an even $9, ya know, for their trouble.

If these pieces of shit with their anti-LGBT retrograde views are really boycotting everyone with an REI initiative or Pride Month acknowledgement then good. Shorter lines for the rest of us while they can stay the fuck home.

It's so bad on twitter too -- just an echo chamber of hate. Companies are embracing pride because it's profitable because it's what the majority of what Americans believe in. Everyone Billy Bob follows on twitter has boycotted Bud Light, but Billy Bob will never learn that Bud Light is doing fine because other than the blue checks, Elon, and politicians fundraising and campaigning on fear and hate, the spending public is happy companies are taking this stand.
Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
I feel like Billy Bob doesn't get told to go fuck himself enough when he goes on social media and says his shitty views. There are some people who can be swayed or at least see a different point of view when you show it to them, but unfortunately, there are too many who simply refuse to see the other side. At that point, people just need to start ostracizing and rebuking them. If enough people shut them out telling them to fuck off on they way out, maybe that's the only way some of them can see that maybe they're in the wrong. And the relative anonymity of social media would seem like the perfect place to verbally take the gloves off.

The comments on the Men In Blazers feed, when Rog posts one of his "third first Bud Light of the day" videos, are the same way. If its not "drink a real beer" (its a sponsorship -- he gets paid to do it) its a deluge of hateful "anti-woke" nonsense.EdRomero wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 1:30 pm

I suppose every generation is going to define it differently, but to me, classic rock means, “before 1990”.

Sorry if I said this before, but with my daughter's friends, it's amazing how they find "new" music through Tik Tok. In our day, we relied on the MTV or the local rock station to tell us what new music was popular. Now, it's whatever song plays behind Tik Tok videos and kids look it up on Spotify. My daughter has no clue about the artists and no idea when a song is legit new or 15 years old and just started trending on Tik Tok, but that is what she and her friends listen to.

Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
To be fair, my experience when discovering older music was really only from my parents. Dad was a huge Roy Orbison fan and my mom loved Cher and Madonna. And they'd listen to what we'd refer to as yacht rock now on the radio. I grew up loving hip hop and really never detracted from it.
So when it came to rock/metal/other music for me I would have to hear it in the background of a movie or TV show unless it was so ubiquitous it was heard outside of those avenues. (Like Queen at sporting events.)
I can't really put an artist to a certain song on some of the stuff I hear now because of it. So I can understand the "new" song I just heard even though it's really old.
Honestly, I had never heard Immigrant Song until that one scene in Baby Driver. (I think it was in that movie.) And when I Shazam'd it found out it was Led Zeppelin and released originally in 1970. I felt kinda sheltered when I found that out.
