The season starts with a bang. Osaka will miss the season, she's pregnant.

3 American men made it to the AO quarters and the unseeded one goes to the Semis. And none of those 3 were on Break Point

Yeah it's a crazy story. He won the NCAA singles title in May, 2022. Then turned pro.
Got a few wins here and there, got a wildcard into Cincinnati Masters and won 2 matches, that's worth 100 points.
Then went on a run in November and won 3 three challenger events (like triple A) and those are each 100 points.
around 600 points gets you in the top 100 and suddenly he was there. Top 100 gets you into the Grand Slams.

All of a sudden, "Holy shit, I've qualified for Australia, I need a passport". Guy had never left the country ever.
Gets to Australia and plays a tune up tournament, 1 win, 1 loss then goes on this incredible run to the QF. He's now in the top 40 and he just made half a million dollars.

Anyone watching the Netflix show? Break Point, done by the same folks that produced Drive to Survive (F1).

It's really good, and it's doing exactly what the F1 show did: Make you care about some of up and coming players on both the men's and women's side of things. I think this is particularly useful/important for the women. They are really kind of random at this point with some of the recent retirements.

Had a random thought in my head after reading about Djokovic withdrawal from Indian Wells. Probably an interesting Swampcrash question or random trivia question. Most walkover wins.

If there was one match to watch this year, for non-tennis fans even, it's this one. One set apiece between Alcaraz and Djokovic on the french clay and the shotmaking has been incredible.

One of the better matches I've watched in a very long time. But it was also kind of weird. Both guys winning sets 6-1... Okay?

But, yeah, Alcaraz and his mix of drop shots and smashing forehands was just incredible.

And say what you want about Jovak, that dude's defense is probably the best in the history of the sport. It's not just that he gets to things most players don't, it's his placement of the returns. It's incredible to watch and I kind of think fans are so used to it they might be shrugging their shoulders at truly one of a kind shots.

What a great day of tennis.

It's 10:49 and Sarah Bareilles is singing to BJK and Michelle Obama on Arthur Ashe, while Djokovic is still waiting to go out there. He must want to murder all of them.

Who he should want to murder is the German that wasted so much time the crowd wanted to kill her by the end of close to 3 hour match with really shady clock stuff. Umpire should've rung her up much earlier in the match.

Very annoying to watch.

My wife said shower curtain, but I think we can all agree it's not a great look.

The other outfit that didn't really work was Wozniacki. She wore like... A unitard, I guess you'd call it? When she tucked the spare ball by her hip, it looked like she'd ruptured her bursa sac.

Tiafoe is a local favorite (Hyattsville MD), but watching this Shelton kid... That's the first American I've watched in a very long time that looks like he has the power + skill to win a major. Tiafoe is fun to watch, but he would have to get very lucky to win one. Fritz just doesn't have the killer/closing game against the top 5 level players.

But Shelton? The dude is ripping 149mph serves and his fore/backhand are deadly. He has the fire power to hang with Alcoraz and Joker. Dude is only 20 yo.

And with Coco on the rise on the women's side... seeing a light at the end of the tunnel for American tennis.

Shelton is all raw undisciplined fearless power. His game from yesterday night probably won't be enough to upset Joker but he has zero chance if he tries to dial it back. Best strategy is more of the same, close your eyes and swing.

And freaky that Coco is only 19, feels like she's been around awhile.
