Saw it on sports center top 10 which is strange because I hadn’t seen spots center in months, easy.

Revs buyout Altidore. Wonder where he will land. Sounds like there is interest from Greece, but without $ pressure this season, an MLS team could get a bargain (or waste a roster space on an aged veteran).

That sucks. I've been making a small profit betting under on TFC goals. Team can't score for shit under Bradley.

So Wayne Rooney a bit fired up after getting squashed by Arsenal last night. Not enough training (they had small sided games on Monday, played soccer tennis on the Mall on Tuesday..and did some stuff for the kids on the White House Lawn). But 4 yellow cards in the first half against the MLSers let Wayne go after MLS officiating too. Surprised he was not upset with Audi field being more like an Arsenal home game (hey MLS you price out the DC United Fans you get what you get there). On the other hand, Wayne selected DC's goalie Tyler Miller for the team..and that guy is no All Star. On the positive side, everyone (including the Arsenal folks) looked like they were having fun at the skills challenge (Goalie Wars is the best).

No complaints about the field? Ball was bobbling all over the place. It was disgraceful. Trying to figure out who is at a bigger disadvantage; guys in midseason form who aren't used to playing together, or guys at the start of preseason who play as a team. I'm going with the allstars, it's not like Arsenal had more than a couple of weeks off, and you have to assume these guys are keeping up their fitness and diets. Speaking of diets, somebody needs to hold an intervention with Rooney. Dude looks enormous!

Game was entertaining enough, Arsenal looked sharp and fun to watch, got me excited for the start of the season. Some comments on the broadcasting, Apple fucked up by posting the score on the first instance you could click on the game. I started watching when the game was almost over, and they posted the score. After a click, I had the option of watching live or starting at the beginning of the game. If you give the option to watch from the beginning, why are you posting the score in an impossible to avoid way? So stupid! On the positive I really like Maurice Edu's commentary. And while I generally like Twellman, his inability to pronounce Arsenal players an Arteta was driving me nuts. Even had Edu signaling to him by correctly pronouncing names immediately after. "OOOH-day-guard" was the most annoying, but he sounded like he had a stroke every time he said Jesus (Gabriel, not Ferreira), and he struggled with Arteta the 700 times he mentioned the name.

Don't agree on the Apple App score. Thanks to TMobile I get the MLS package for free. On most Saturdays I find myself either watching DC United lose or jumping between games. The score is a help (although the wrap around show is really the best..4 games up at all times

or you could just do this
There is an option to hide scores in the interface, through the in-app Settings. To hide the scores of live matches on your iPhone, go to Settings > TV, then turn off Show Sports Scores. Learn how. Turn Show Sports Scores on or off

The Apple TV interface has been insultingly bad. Seems like they're slowly addressing the complaints but... to be showing scores in the menu as a default is incredibly stupid. If you happened to figure out how to turn that off (it's different on every platform, and I still haven't figured out how to do it from the desktop app), they occasionally still pop up on the 'featured game' graphic that scrolls above the list of live games. Also, it took them 1/2 way through the season to allow you to stop watching a game and then resume automatically where you left off. Hasn't been the best rollout obvi.

There is no question (in my mind) that a team that plays together, even if in "pre-season" form has an OVERWHELMING advantage over a group of dudes thrown together with basically one day of training. All of the off the ball stuff and understanding the shape and formation?

It's a fun game and I'm not all worked up about it, but just to address that question... The format of our all-stars facing the Mexican league all-stars is much more of a fair fight.

(I'd add that these days, these guys stopped playing barely 6-7 weeks ago. It's not like in other sports where unless you make a very deep run into the playoffs, you have close to 3 months off in most sports. I mean in the NFl, most guys play their last game in December and the pre-season doesn't start until August. MLB ends in October and starts back up in March. I know there are camps and other off-season stuff, but soccer is kind of ridiculous on this front... But the point is... They don't really have a chance to get rusty or out of shape in the true sense of the term.)

As Tim Ream's podcast has come to the MiB platform, I picked up on the "offseason". He is coming off injury, but the ramp up does not seem to be terrible since they are all still in pretty good form. Very different than MLS offseason (and Arsenal's where nearly everyone has some shot at international duty while in the off season). I mean Puhlisic got probably 14 days between Nation's league an his first training in Italy.

Cruz Azul is just shoving the ball down into Miami's throat. The fact that it is 0-0 is pretty amazing. Messy is on the bench. Probably wondering what the hell he signed up for.

Also DC United appears to have two shit show incidents in the last week.

And

2 goals and an assist tonight. The first goal made it look like he intentionally hit the post before tapping in the rebound.

Like, lebrón even old would dominate most lesser leagues I guess. Or any high level player really.

Dude won a WC barely over a year ago. He is what Beckham was in he joined MLS: Still in his prime, but obviously in the last few frames. (Beckham was actually younger at 31 to Messi's 34.)

So, yeah, he's really that good. AND this league is just slower than the top European leagues. Guys take too long over the ball and defenders don't properly shut down even mediocre attackers.

You give Messi (and his long time partner in crime Busquets) all that time and they are going to punish you.

=-=-=-=

One of the reasons MLS is faring so well against the FML (mexican league) these days is because the overall pace of play is pretty much on par. FML typically has more overall technical ability (IMO), but they both play the sport in the summer (always relatively hot in MEX) where it's just not feasible to play balls-to-the-wall pace.

So tomorrow DC is at Philly and at the exact same time Pumas and Queretaro are playing at United's home field. The biggest impact of Leagues cup is potentially a long layoff of games for those who did not exit the group or get knocked out in this round.

Welp... I'm the mark, apparently. Messi pulled me into watching/following these League's Cup matches and it has been WILD. Beyond Messi, the round of 16 produced 5 of 8 games going to PKs. And, for the most part (at least what I caught) the games were pretty well played.

I'll have to dig a bit or maybe somebody knows? Why are all of these games on US soil? Does it switch next year?

It's nice that of the remaining 8 teams, 6 are MLS sides. But I'd have to think with so many of these games coming down to the wire, playing on home soil is a bit of an advantage.

While that's fine and totally understandable in the short term, 2 of the final 8 teams and generally getting worked year over year is NOT a good look for their league.
