Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
That didn't take too long.
Chris Paul's title streak looks intact... until he gets bought out. His contract has a partial guarantee this season ($15.8M of the $30.8M total) that becomes fully guaranteed on the 28th.

Kinda nuts. Especially with that new CBA.

Lakers are allegedly going to try to get Paul, also.
The Wizards are learning something we were all told over a decade ago: "No half measures." They spent a lot of time playing around, hoping to make the move that would magically pay off and make the team good with Beal and John Wall, then just Beal. And they have three playoff series wins in five total postseason appearances in the 13 years since drafting Wall (and 11 since drafting Beal).

Kinda blows my mind that the best washington could do was chris paul for bradley beal. Can the other guy play?

Shamet had a bad year last year, but he is much more third guard than starter.

Wonder if its one of those deals where a year from now everyone will say Washington was smart just to get out of the contract (with its NTC) when they had the chance.

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
Looking at the Wizards' year-to-year, they probably should have traded Beal at the deadline in the 2018-19 season. Wall was already out for the year after heel surgery, then ruptured his Achilles' just before the trade deadline. Probably could have done really well trading a guy who would turn 26 after the season ended who was in the midst of a 25/5/5 season on .475/.351/.808 shooting and had three more seasons left on his contract.
Pretty bad decision to try to build around one max guy when your other max guy is cooked, but his contract just soaks up space.

Got the push note that Boston isn't trading Brown.
So it looks like the dude is going to get a super max despite not being able to dribble.
This team isn't winning banner 18 anytime soon.

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
Athletic is reporting a three-team deal is close to completion with the Celtics getting Porzingis and sending out Brogdon (Clips are the third team involved with a Morris brother and draft picks also getting moved around).
Heh.

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
Beyond firing their coach, I think they felt they had to make a big moven and figure out what's best for building around Tatum. Trading your best defensive player when you're team's defense got much worse this season doesn't seem to make much sense. Maybe Stevens is worried about him declining because of his stryle of play. He's also can be a really good passer, but he'll do some frustrating things too -- he has unbelievable confidence which sometimes becomes overconfidence and stupidity. Maybe the Celtics have confidence that Derrick White can do more, and that Tatum or Brown can become better leaders with Smart no longer there to be the de facto leader. There should be some more trades because I don't see them holding on to those first round picks.
I love this trade for Memphis. They were frustrating to watch in the playoffs and they seemed to need a Marcus Smart type player on the court. I'm also hoping he can be the type of personality/good role model that can help straighten out Ja Morant.

It's like when you think about how you'd respond in a crisis and you'll never know until it actually happens.
I puked.
(For basketball reasons this isn't terrible. Huge backfire potential though unless the locker room chemistry is way different than what's portrayed)

I know he's looking for the bigger bag (street cred 10/10) but opting out on 40 million seems reckless. But it will probably be better long term for Middleton (who I think is good but I've never been blown away by).

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
Going to be interesting to see how the Celtics build around the contracts of Tatum, Brown, and Porzingis because you don't trade for Porzingis without planning on extending him.
Smart is a nice pickup for the Grizzlies because he can play point during the Morant suspension, then backup and play next to him, as needed. Not sure they will want Smart and Bane to both defend bigger wings with regularity, but they could definitely play some three-guard lineups in front of Jaren Jackson, Jr. and Steven Adams.

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
Celtics need gritty defenders and glue. I'm going to put bug eyed white afro man in with the jays as cogs so build from there with defense and glue. I don't see porzengis fitting into that. More offense first. They needs grit and guts more than primary offense.
Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
All this talk about Miller to Hornets being a lock. Now we get closer to draft time and no one is believing that, so Scoot it is!

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
I don't see how Charlotte don't take Scoot. I would take either Thompson twin over Miller. Definitely take Amen before Miller.

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
I personally want Amen. It also is a funny result after our owner was filmed drunk in New Orleans screaming "pray for Victor!"

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
He's probably fucking around joking, but maybe, maybe not on Miller to Charlotte.

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
Last I saw Vegas had Scoot trending to be the 2nd. Similar scenario as last year when Smith was the favorite until draft day when Banchero became the Vegas favorite.

What's worse for the Wizards, the bottoming out of the roster or the Qatar Investment Authority buying a majority stake in the ownership conglomerate (Capitals, too)?

Hornets better hope Miller and Ball become Jordan and Pippen. I don't see it.

Thompson Twins going back to back was so exciting I almost called the Doctor! Doctor! (Yeah I had to Google another Thompson Twins song)

Re: 2023 NBA Offseason Thread
Wait...there are 6 sets of twins in the nba now? I mean, it makes sense but still surprising.
(think of it as one team having all of them and twins make up 1/30th of the league)
