Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
One of my recent random thoughts while road-tripping was how many interstates I've traveled completely. I figured it was about 4-5, then remembered those puny ones like I-11 and I-14.
I have the following (11):
I-11
I-12
I-14
I-24
I-27
I-30
I-37
I-45
I-55
I-57
I-88
Reasonable chance of adding to list (6):
I-10 (need a small part of the western part and from 75 to Jacksonville on the east)
I-20 (ironically just need from Abilene to where it meets I-10)
I-25 (just the part north of Loveland)
I-39 (from Normal to I-80)
I-40 (from Raleigh to Wilmington and small parts of Oklahoma/Arkansas)
I-44 (from Lawton to Oklahoma City)

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
Interesting idea for a thread. I had a friends in law school from Seattle who drove to Boston. I thought it was so cool that she got on the first exit of I-90 and drove through the last exit, until I drove from Boston to Buffalo on I-90 and I was ready to kill myself. I used to drive for 2+hours on I-90 coming home from college, and it's the least scenic and most boring patch of highway. Driving 450+ miles straight on one road with no scenery was torture, no idea how she managed over 3,000 miles on one road. Hey, according to Wiki, I-90 is the longest interstate in the US!
ETA: I assumed I wouldn't have any, but I surprised myself!
I-84: Not in one trip and I may have a gap between Newburgh, NY to Danbury, CT.
I-86: Two trips, one starting in Binghamton heading East, and numerous times from Binghamton heading West.
-Side note, why is there a second I-86 that only runs in Iowa?
I-87: NJ to Montreal for a bachelor party. VERY eventful trip
I-88: Binghamton to Schenectady. Does life get any better? No, seriously, high school me desperately needs to know! \\
-Side note, there is a second I-88 in Illinois. Both I-88s only run in one state, do they not understand the definition of Interstate?
I-95: Two trips, and I fell 3 miles short on the Northern end of the trip, took a turn just before the Canadian Border, but I'm taking credit since it's over
1900 miles.
I-80 I've driven at both ends San Fransico and the Bay Bridge and Teaneck, NJ, but I'm missing several thousand miles in the middle, but nobody cares about those sections anyways.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
I love this idea, but I'm embarrassed that the only ones I can claim are I-5 and short ones like I-82 and I-84.
And I-84 only counts if you treat the I-84 in the west as a separate highway from the one in the northeast.
I've driven the routes of I-41 and I-43 in Wisconsin, but before they were interstates.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
I’ve driven the entirety of I-25, from south of Las Cruces, New Mexico, to the top of Wyoming near Sheridan.
I’ve driven the entirety of I-5 from the bottom of California to north of Seattle.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
Looks like I-65 is the only one. Have never made it to miami on 75 (nor to the northern terminus..I thought it was detroit but it is not).
Maybe I-80 (nope, I guess it joins up somewhere in Akron but doesn't end officially, so definitely a no on that one).

i've done the entirety of I-90. Ends (or starts i guess) at Edgar Martinez Way.
i'll have to investigate but i might complete TransCanada this fall (i've done rt 1 section out west many times) in the maritimes.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
I-95 I've done a couple of times, even taking it a step further on A1A down to Key West. Well, to be fair, I've only gone as far north as Bangor on that end.
I-70 we just came probably 30 miles or so when we went out past Denver on our way out to Utah.
I don't know how far south I-5 goes, but I started in Sahn Diahgo and drove up the coast to SFO with the boy. And later drove from SEA up to VAN.
And I've driven either I30 or I20, I just can't remember which one we took on the way back from NM.
I can say, looking at the map, I've been on portions of all but maybe one, if we're not counting weird one-off spurs (Looking at you I-27 and I-17!).

If you took I-20 if you were coming back from New Mexico unless you started I-30 in Fort Worth and took it up to Little Rock. I am counting all of the official ones, so that's why I called some of mine puny haha.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 1:48 pm I-95 I've done a couple of times, even taking it a step further on A1A down to Key West. Huh, now that I really study the map.
I've definitely driven the length of some shorties I forgot about in the Appalachia region.
I-68
I-79
Also, I-83 from B'more up to Harrisburg/Hershey I've done probably a dozen times.
And then, when driving up to New York and Canada on I-81. Done that a LOT, back when my wife's family had a cottage in Ontario.

I think some of you are including every interstate you’ve traveled, not the ones you’ve traveled in their entirety.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
I’ve driven to Maine and Miami (separate trips) so I guess I at least get credit from syb and NLFC for 95. Definitely done 78.
The farthest west I’ve ever driven is Gatlinburg, TN so that might be it unless my lack of knowledge is leading me to short myself on some other short interstate.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
I-95 I had done I-95 southbound on visits to Monroe County, FL (The Keys) and when I drove up to see Phish in '97 at the Great Went Festival in Limestone, ME (at the decommissioned Loring Air Force Base), I successfully drove every inch of that highway.
I-4 at least a dozen or so times.
I-84 on a trip to Boston like ten years ago.
I-83 a few times on trips to PA and the Finger Lakes region in NY.
I've got most of I-85 done, but I doubt I'll ever drive from Atlanta to Montgomery.

I was there, too! That’s why I drove the Northern stretch. 24 hour drive from Buffalo with a detour to pick up a friend in Albany. No other reason to be that far up 95. Best weekend ever, other than the resulting opium withdrawals. Were you guys part of the Guinness Record for most people in a nude group photo?

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
I guess I'm a typical East Coast person who doesn't go for long drives a lot. The longest one that I can definitely claim is 85. I probably have done the entirety of 95 up to Portland or thereabouts but definitely not Canada.
What am I saying, I've driven the entirety of I-16 from Macon to Savannah, which is the longest highway on Earth.

And hit me up when you're on your way.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
Driving I-4 completely is weirdly uncommon I would think, given how short it is. If you grow up on the gulf coast, you generally stick to those beaches, and if you grow up on the Atlantic side, you generally stay there as well. I think I've maybe only done the entire thing twice in my life and it's only 132 miles. If you're driving from Tampa and heading to St. Augustine (not that far north of Daytona), you'd generally take I-75 north and then cut over east around Ocala. If you're driving from Tampa and heading south, (shit not even south) and heading anywhere from Cape Canaveral south on that side of the state, you wouldn't take I-4 all the way to Daytona.

Re: Random List - Interstates Traveled Completely
I'm putting that in the category of having driven the length, but not in one shot. I have a BIL that lives in JAX and that's the route he took us to to get to Orlando. And, similarly, we have visited Tampa a couple of times and we took that to get to Orlando on one of those trips.
This was back before my penchant for taking "back roads." Probably never would happen if those trips took place today. I take every reasonable chance to get off and interstate that I can, especially in place like FL where you can run into random Gator Zoos and other weird shit.
