Thanks for the alert. I turned it on and was enjoying Tyler Childers for a few songs, until my wife had enough and demanded I hand over the remote.

I told brian about it via text, but the podcast hosted by their trumpeter/keyboardist and fiddle player called Ameri-Kinda is great. Basically, they pick a theme and play a bunch of songs* relating to that theme, then tell stories in between. The stories rarely have anything to do with the theme, more like how fucking awful it sounds to be a touring musician of their level. Really funny stuff and I've been introduced to some music I've never heard before.

*I think you have to listen on Spotify to get the songs.

Just realized The Vandoliers are in Boise Sunday for the last night of their tour and I’m 5 hrs away in Reno so that might be happening.

Saw them in Cleveland earlier this month, and it was a fantastic show. Was probably the second-best Cure show I’ve attended. The Cure played for almost three hours, and the opening act played for 30-45 minutes. Despite his advancing years, Robert Smith’s voice still has good range.

I keep hearing good things about this tour. I've never seen them live. Looks like their setlists are pretty consistent. The wife will be very happy to hear Lullaby.

Really good show. Twilight Sad were great, although I'm bummed this wasn't one of the ~25% of their shows where they cover Frightened Rabbit's Keep Yourself Warm.

The Cure sound amazing and Robert's voice is as strong as ever. LOTS of songs I wasn't familiar with, which were a little jam band-y but good. The hits were amazing.

Saw Jason Isbell last night at the Woodland Park Zoo. Cool, mellow venue...volume was turned down for the neighbors. But man...it was HOT (for Seattle)...85-90 degrees.

Great show...sounded great. For all his other talents, which are many, Isbell is just a damn amazing songwriter. And comes off as just a super humble guy. My favorite songs of the night were probably "Cast Iron Skillet" and "Alabama Pines".

The Seattle tradition continued, with Mike McCready joining in on "This Ain't It" for the encore.

Opener was Deer Tick, who I was not familiar with. Thought they were ok...didn't really stand out for me.

Deer Tick have a few absolute bangers, and really pissed my wife off by not playing one of them the time she saw them.

Baltimore Blues, Twenty Miles, and Smith Hill are a few of the bangers. Bit of trivia, lead singer John McCauley is married to Vanessa Carlton.

Went and caught the Trey Anastasio Band w Horns at Pier 6 in Baltimore. Great show. Amazing musicians. Not as improv and jammy as a Phish show. The horn section is two women who can play their asses off and they can sing pretty also.

If you follow me on either FB or Twitter, you know I had an awesome experience last night with several newer and independent Americana artists doing a song swap at a legendary club in Austin called The Saxon Pub. There's a little community that's formed on Twitter where the fans and musicians regularly interact, so a lot of the crowd was from that community since this was first trip to Texas in a long time, if not ever for three of them. If you want to check them out, here was the lineup:

Matt Moran (he has an Isbell-like voice...I was blown away)
Austin Mayse
Liv.
Will Payne Harrison

Ooh, I'll be in ATX for Death Cab/Postal Service/Beths at the end of September. Think I can get my 15 year old into Saxon?

ETA - just checked, and no. 21+

I waited too long and missed out on getting tix to their Philly show in September. On the secondary market, they're $145 at their cheapest. No idea what they were originally, but that seems mighty steep.

Heading out to Revivalists and The Head and the Heart in a few hours though, so I'm super pumped for that.

I wonder if there are exceptions. I can ask Austin Mayse who also works there. He's the one who organized last night.

You'd probably love it and I still like it a lot too. It's crazy how much it's changed so quickly. It's now one of the top 10 most populous cities in the US. The Saxon Pub won't be there too much longer I imagine with all the development that's going on anywhere close to downtown.
