Wow...
Re: 2023 World Cup
JFC that VAR replay.
She wasn’t the only miss obvs but good thing Smith is young enough to get a chance to make up for that.

I have long advocated scoring goals as a way to progress through tournaments, and days like this make me feel vindicated

Shows how athletic the womens game is now. An aging Rapinoe, Sinclair or Marta just can't be thrown out there to contribute anymore.

Re: 2023 World Cup
It's a shame because they finally played logical formation/tactics and it showed.
That said, against decent teams, we scored zero goals in the run of play. Not gonna get it done.
And the missed PKs were pretty embarrassing. O'Hara was not terrible, but on the other hand, put the fucking ball on frame. For as good as their keeper played, she didn't make one save in the PKs.
Hate to say choke, but when you sky the ball like Rapinoe and Smith... Those were HORRIBLE.
Earliest exit ever. Maybe the group stages and crapping out this early will get folks talking? I doubt it, as their extremely arrogant, but maybe...

Why? My Canada to win Group B and US to score over 20.5 goals has been finaized as losses

Re: 2023 World Cup
They don’t mind taking your money early but they sure as shit hate giving it early. Though I assume the reason is more prosaic like Sweden could be bounced for all 20 players testing positive for rhino steroids or something I guess.degenerasian wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 11:25 amWhy? I also would've put money on a draw for that match. Was out at a happy hour and a guy across from me is now sitting on nice winnings with that advice. I just never got around to setting up my account and don't really wanna open that door anyways.

If I'm not mistaken, goalie guessed to her right on every single shot. Just hit the fucking net!Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 10:04 am It's a shame because they finally played logical formation/tactics and it showed.

Re: 2023 World Cup
Just picked up my daughter from a soccer clinic. The coach who runs it usually has a couple of his older club players helping out. My daughter came out all excited, as Casey Phair was there. My daughter is friends with the other two older girls that assist, so she got to hang out with Casey at all the breaks and after the clinic ended. Sounds like it hasn't gone to her head at all, my daughter said Casey was very friendly and you never would have known she just got back from playing in the World Cup.The Sybian wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 10:08 am Casey Phair, the 16 yo who came on for South Korea and became the youngest player ever in a WC, plays for my daughter's club. She is teammates with the family friend I mentioned a few weeks ago who got capped for the England U16 squad.

Spain got away with one, that was a clear penalty. Can't believe they reversed it.

Couldn’t sleep, turned on just as the second extra time period started. France subbed on a new keeper for PKs. Let’s see how that works…

Wagner mentioned a couple of rounds ago that the AUS keeper was moving early. Save knocked off the board in round 9.

Crazy to see such a pressure shootout go that long. In the men's World Cup, a shootout has never gone past 6.

And it was pretty high quality. Saves, and I think only one sky-ed completely off frame.degenerasian wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 10:21 am Crazy to see such a pressure shootout go that long. In the men's World Cup, a shootout has never gone past 6.

That said, i stated early in the tournament how much I liked Spain. Beyond that howler, they absolutely destroyed the Swiss today.

That second ENG goal is a killer. Never should have happened and Australia was flying.

Still trying to figure out what the AUS defender was trying to do on that one. If she just whiffed I guess that can happen but seems like she could have just conceded the corner pretty easily.

I think the AUS defender was thinking the keeper was going to come out and smother it.BeckyHammon’s hoodie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 6:41 amStill trying to figure out what the AUS defender was trying to do on that one. Miscommunication/understanding with the GK there, is my take. Agree, in that situation, just concede the corner.BeckyHammon’s hoodie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 6:41 amStill trying to figure out what the AUS defender was trying to do on that one.
