Dominguez likely tore it last weekend v HOU, and then exacerbated it on the throw this past Wednesday vs DET. He mentioned it after that game to the medical staff. He then plays the next three straight games (entire games), and it isn’t until he can barely generate any power during BP on Sunday they realize something might be wrong.

Seriously, this team fucking sucks in a lot more ways than just being meh on the field.

It also begs the question:

How the hell does a twenty year old centerfielder blowout his UCL?

My guess is the overtraining and overdevelopment of his body by professional trainers pushed his ligaments beyond capacity.

How long as he been CF only? Probably pitched a fair amount before minors.

He was signed by a trainer at age 13 as a catcher and he transitioned to CF. No clue if he pitched (probably as a kid).

If its partially torn, its eventually going to be fully torn (unless you're Tanaka). I don't know shit, but I would think there's a better chance it happened from a kid being massive early on rather than anything he or the team did wrong. But it just sucks ass given how well he started his career and how fun he was to watch.

I guess the bright side is this opens the door if Bader isn't getting what he wants and chooses a show-me deal.

Something called a Matt Olson has 50 homers and I couldn't pick him out of a lineup (he probably bats 4th? I dunno) nor told you whom he played for had the headlines not given it away. I don't follow baseball like I used to, that's for sure.

If you picked him out of a lineup, Atlanta would be really mad!

Using picked out of a lineup and Atlanta in the same sentence, I just assumed you were talking about Marcell Ozuna

I looked him up - he hit 142 homers in 4-ish seasons for Oakland before the As traded him.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Does anyone know how to find the Catch Probability on a given play from a game played yesterday?

He was known to have bona fide power before. This wasn’t some Brady Anderson shit.

It was 15% and the only way I can see it even that high is for plays where the CF is laid out rather than almost backhanding it on the slide and maaaybe his jump could have been a little quicker. It was pretty insane, esp from the wide angle.

Okay, but which Pete Crow-Armstrong catch are you talking about? The one in the first inning or the one later?

Can you also tell me where you're finding this information?

The later one where he went way into the RCF gap. I googled and found video I think on the MLB website; there's no sites I'm aware of where you can see individual plays (and reverse xBA doesn't work because that's exit velo + angle and doesn't account for positioning).

This is just sloppy reporting. Little Big League was the movie where the kid managed the Twins. Rookie of the Year is when the kid pitched for the Cubs.

Not sayin' Bloom didn't deserve to be fired, but when ownership forces your hand to move on from players like Mookie Betts and to a lesser extent, Xander Bogaerts, it sure as hell makes every other decision you make that much more costly.

Yup, said the same thing today. The return sucked, but how do you get fair value for Mookie F’ing Betts once ownership has mandated a trade? Still so glad that happened.

So the O's found themselves in a situation tonight. Game tied at 3, two outs in the top of the 7th. Their #8 hitter, Rays hitter, Luke Raley (.830 OPS) at the plate and he works the count to 3-1. The #9 hitter is their starting catcher, Christian Bethancourt (.622 OPS).

Now, the smart thing to do here might just be to walk Raley and force the Rays to remove their starting catcher from the game and turn to likely PH, Jonathan Aranda, he of a .698 OPS (still a 97 OPS+, so though not at bad as Bethancourt, still a below average hitter). They could've done this by either throwing a ball well off the plate, or just have Adley turn around and tell the umpire they're walking Raley.

Or, they could do what they opted to do, and that's try to slip a fastball by Raley to get it to a full count. The pitch was an absolute meatball that I'm guessing 75% of MLB ballplayers would've promptly deposited over the fence the way Raley did to CF.

Just a complete misfire by Brandon Hyde there.

Eta: MLB hitters as a whole this year on a 3-1 count are hitting .346 / .716 / .643, which amounts to a ridiculous 1.359 OPS. Babe Ruth's career OPS was 1.1636.

i mean... i get the anger as i cannot imagine a more frustrating season (getting 3x daily texts from my daughter around the theme "how can they do this to me" - it ain't personal, kid...) but i don't think you blow up a team that is still gonna win between 85-90 games and has had for the most part a top 3 rotation in baseball.

having said that...

it will be a fking fascinating off-season. a lot coming off the books (Chapman, KK, Whit maybe, Ryu, Belt, Cimber) so there's some flexibility.

But so many questions. Is Springer hurt or has he hit the rapid downslope of his career? Are any of the Buffalo Bunch for real? Then of course i'm sure what you're sideways-implying...the Vladdy question.

Last year the team mashed but was accused of not being serious. Just hitting home runs and joking around. Base running mistakes, bad defense etc.. They tried to resolve this by trading the jokers for more serious guys. Teoscar and Lourdis out, Varsho, KK and Belt in. But now the team can't hit at all and are not having any fun. Manoah and Kirk started the all-star game last year, can barely crack the lineup this year. And Vladdy has a huge hole in his swing. It's really hard to explain. I really dislike the identity as a whole this season but oddly enough not one player on the team is totally dislikable or an easily identifiable problem child.

They can win 85-90 games but it doesn't feel like a good team. To get booed in September when technically in a wildcard position, shows the uniqueness of the teams situation. Fans can feel how poor the team has been all year and even they've had enough. With large renovations to the stadium this off-season to attract big corporations to invest through season ticket, Rogers needs fan interest to be on their side to end the year, while also needing some playoff revenue. Those who are just hoping to make it to the playoffs "and see", I think are too positive.

He's one of those guys who's perpetually nicked up but also sneaky old. College player who didn't debut until 24.5 and is now about to turn 34.

Went to the M's - Dodgers game last night....the M's just cannot get a timely hit, at all. 0-0 going into the extra innings, ended up 6-2 Dodgers in the 11th.
  • I really do not like the "ghost runner" rule in extra innings. I get why they do it, but just seems wrong.
  • There were a TON of Dodger fans there...seems like it was about 50-50, with competing "Let's Go Dodgers/Let's Go Mariners" chants going most of the night
  • Why do people still try to get the wave going? C'mon...its 2023...just watch the game
