The parents of children I work with are mostly extremely successful people spending a fortune on local taxes for good schools, a fortune on childcare/lessons/camps/nannys/tutors/etc and their children just spent a week on the top floor of a school with no air conditioning in the most humid/hot weather of the year. I would love to force any corporate asshole/politician who bashes teachers to spend a week working in the conditions we force American children and their teachers to work in.

Good news: I figured out why my garbage disposal wasn't working well and I found the missing spout of one of my water bottles.

I've had to remove and reinstall the garbage disposal a couple times because it's easily stopped up by a non food item.

Thankfully, it's surprisingly easy to do. Thanks, YouTube.

Quick....I'm getting a new grill, and when I ordered it from Amazon I saw that with my Prime membership, there was the option for "assembly/take away".

The guys are here now putting it together...I gotta tip them, right?

Should be. Two guys who know what they are doing, it shouldn’t take long. Took me about two hours, because when I was close to finished I realized a leg was backwards and gad to take it apart and start over.

They seemed pretty psyched about it. One guy told me he'd be back when I put the burgers on the grill.

The putting it together was nice...even better was the "take away" of the old one.

And since I brought up the issue of tipping...I saw something online last night with bike mechanics talking about the best/worst tips they've received. And I thought...."Wait...should I be tipping the mechanic at the bike shop?".

Should I be? I never even considered it.

I don't understand tipping someone who works for themselves, like a house cleaner, or maybe a bike mechanic. I mean they set the price and take all the earnings. Why tip?

I've been shocked at some of the things I didn't know I was supposed to tip for. Add bike mechanic to the list. I bring my kids' bikes to a shop, they fix it. Never thought to tip. Especially since it's the owner in the front at the register and I don't see the mechanic. Am I supposed to tip for lawnmower and power tool repairs? Same thing, owner runs the register, mechanic is in the shop. Only time I tipped him was when they replaced my pull chord on my leaf blower. Owner said he didn't feel like writing up the order, but if I wanted to, I could go in the shop and give the guy a tip. I tried on my own (did the same repair on my snowblower no problem, but couldn't get the chord to sit right). Guy was cool, taught me a trick on getting the chord to sit right. Wish I could remember it now...

Bike shop tips at good places generally come in the form of alcohol. a 6 pack of something or bottle to sit in the shop is always appreciated.

I reached out to my mate who's a bike mechanic in Chicago, and he said that they get tips sometimes.

Sometimes money, sometimes beer, sometimes pizza, sometimes pastries. He said they save any money they get and let the most broke employee get coffee or lunch.

Well as the oldest regular poster (I think), I can say that my hair growth rate has slowed down as I’ve gotten older, and I think times of stress might increase the grey. But, I am pleased and surprised that I’ve still got a full head of hair - my two brothers both saw their hairlines recede dramatically quite awhile ago. So all of that is hard to predict.

Sorry for the Bill Simmons approach here, but is 2023 Taylor Swift the most famous person ever relative to her competition? (VORF). My wife and I both said that even though it seems like everyone is a celebrity, she's the only celebrity. 1983 Michael Jackson is my other candidate.

Music seems more fragmented now so I'd say no. But maybe more comp for that reason in the 80s. Plenty of people who barely know her music. Madonna seemed more universally recognized. Elite company for sure
