Makes sense for both sides I think. Mathews didn’t want a long-term deal (I’ve heard) and he’s setup for one more big contract.

You'd think this would put Jarmo on thin ice as well. Just a colossally stupid hire.

Jackets respond: nothing to see here. Biz doubles down. This could be a crossroads between the NHL and media relations.

Nothing that Babcock or Jenner said disputes that he transferred pics/data. Maybe he didn't and they just didn't address it, but that statement can be 100% factual and he could still deserve to be fired.

Either you haven’t read the non-Babcock version of the story or … you’re wrong?

I haven’t followed it religiously but I saw most of the CLB players seem to say it wasn’t a big deal. But like I said not saying I’ve been atuned to every twist and turn. Either way not shedding any tears for Babcock.

Evander Kane and I made uncomfortable eye contact when he was coming out of the downtown Vancouver Whole Foods back in '15 so eat it.

It'll get done. Sounds like the Flyers are holding out for a better prospect than Ottawa wants to give up. That Sens team is going to be capital G good pretty soon.

I had a summer fling with Olli Jokinen back in '06. (We first met at Trader Joe's, not Whole Foods, so I don't know if this post is appropriate.)

Baaaaaaaps.

It’s allowed and now I’ll add “eats frozen meals” to that other thing I think of with Jokinen.

Extremely sad. He fought it out in the public and raised awareness to the disease.

I can't really imagine either deal working out, even as the cap goes up, but I also have no idea what else Winnipeg can do. If a good player is willing to sign, you pretty much do it, I guess?

7 year deals, each starting after both players turn 31 is a colossally bad idea, IMO.

It is, but they don't have the same opportunity cost that a normal franchise does.

For sure, and I don't have a better answer except maybe trade both of them for younger players or picks and sign someone long term when they're young, not to a contract that lasts until they're 38.

Yeah, that's the ideal path, but then you run into Laine or PLD situations and it just makes everything look horrible. Having ownership that won't pay is bad but the fix is a better owner. I honestly don't know how you fix players having no desire to be in Winnipeg beyond leaving Winnipeg.
