The "bothsidesism" right now is truly off the charts. The GOP is a fucking tire fire right now and it's not even up for debate. Call it like it is.

Seems reasonable.

It's nice to laugh at McCarthy but this is going to lead to some bad stuff. He at least avoided government shutdowns. Right now it looks like Gaetz and the crazies' plan is to find someone who trolls libs and destroying the country with a shutdown and other bullshit.

Yeah, I get a Dem wanting to vote against McCarthy. He's a douche and just blamed them for threatening the shutdown when they are the ones who voted to avoid it. Buuuuuuut, they are playing a dangerous game risking the GOP nominating a true MAGA crazy.

That's true.

At the very least, mass movement deployments have the "I can go to your colonel and he/she will unfuck your attitude if you don't listen to me" outlet.

Yes, but so would approximately 100% of other Republican representatives. Like I said, I get wanting to hurt McCarthy, but you have to game theory this shit.

If McCarthy were a reasonable actor, I'd agree. The risk here is that their entire party comes together on someone even worse than McCarthy before your side can get something for pushing a more reasonable candidate over the line, right?

I get the direction of the conversation, but you are asking an awful lot of these folks to ignore him going on Sunday morning shows and blaming Democrats for pushing a shutdown scenario. That was simply outrageous.

Folks have to also realize, this really is like high school in terms of cliques, emotions, adrenaline, hormones, etc. It is often driven by emotion. I know it shouldn't be, but, again, you're asking an awful lot of these folks to just go all Spock on this shit and drive everything through a logical prism.

At some point, btw, the House Republicans need to get their shit together. Allowing one member to hijack an entire session is ludicrous and exposes them as unable to govern. Period.

That's not for the Democrats to solve, frankly.

Exactly. Let them show their collective ass... Low info voters are probably only hearing "chaos" and don't understand anything beyond that.

What's truly incredible is that no one on the GOP side is understanding that backing Trump and his chaos is LOSING THEM ELECTIONS. All this does is further the "please STFU and just get things done" vibe that most moderates and independents have latched onto.

This is my take, but I'm also not comfortable with the thought of who replaces McCarthy. I feel like this is a bit of the dog catching the car. I heard Gaetz say on several interviews that he knows the Dems will save McCarthy and he wasn't bringing the motion to succeed, but to embarrass McCarthy and go on a tour showing the Dems saving McCarthy as proof that he is a tool for the Dems. I assume he would then use that as leverage to force McCarthy to cave in on the whims of Gaetz and his wing of loons. I know McCarthy seems sane and rational compared to the MTG, Gaetz and Boeberts of the House, but McCarthy is at the level of the worst of the GOP circa 2010.

One of the problems with our current state of politics is that one of our two parties runs on a platform of "Government doesn't work," and their mission is to jam sticks in the gears to make sure it doesn't work. Their base gets off on "owning the libs" even if it means policies that hurt them personally. They can (and do) constantly threaten to shut down the government, because they don't care about the millions of Americans that get fucked over, especially since it's mostly poor and minorities. And they always try to pin the shutdowns on the Dems, but I don't think that works outside of their most uninformed base. The few Republicans who do care can sit back knowing the Dems will be the adults in the room and work to keep the government open. On the downside, it's negotiating with terrorists and just encourages them to be worse and pry more out of the Dems in the next budget negotiation.

This is all just further proof this is not a serious political party with serious people. Gaetz et al rant and rave that they’re unsuccessful slashing spending and all their other fantasies but never seem to remember they’re a thin majority and the Senate and White House are Dems. Given that you have to negotiate to get even 25 percent of what you want but these turds think politics is a zero-sum game.

So good. Daffy Duck (R-FL) can just keep shooting himself in the face. The 2024 House ads already write themselves.

Newt Gingrich: Republicans must expel Matt Gaetz
Gaetz’s motion to remove McCarthy should have been swiftly defeated, but it wasn’t; he should still be expelled from the House Republican Conference. House Republicans have far more important things to do than entertain one member’s ego.
Newt's pretty old these days, so he must not remember when he shut down the entire Government because President Clinton made him exit Air Force 1 by the back door.

Yeah, the rough equivalent of any type of grilling would be behind closed doors in their caucus/conference meetings. Shit gets real and they've taken to telling ppl to leave cell phones back in their offices.

Glad you said that, I didn’t see the box he is standing on!

Most of the RW pundits I saw were going off on Gaetz before he brought the motion (or whatever it’s called). Some were furious, and these were assholes that are usually pro-Gaetz. I do love watching the less crazy wing go to wave it’s the crazies. The let the inmates run the asylum, and now they can’t control them. And assholes like Gaetz, MTG and Boebert don’t give a fuck about decorum or anything other than attention and viral videos. Hopefully they just blow up the Party and not take the country with them.
