That's such an aggressively Texas story. Good God.

I read the story in the Post. This guy is the stereotype of what non-Americans picture gun loving Americans to be...
And this fucking kills me...
“Anyone that handles any kind of weapon needs to know that weapon and know how it works and know what the possible dangers could be,” Gardner (gun-toting Grandpa) said. “You need to know that, and that is a huge thing.”
Houchin (local Sheriff's Deputy) emphasized that in his 30 years with the sheriff’s office, he had “never seen a blank like this.”
“It was poorly made,” he said.
And this fucking kills me...
“Accidents happen,” Gardner said, before thanking God for his grandson surviving.
“God wasn’t surprised by what happened that day,” Gardner said. “He made sure things were taken care of. He knew what we were going to need that day.”

Naw, in Texas, you are allowed to shoot children as long as they are your kids or grandchildren. Remember a long-ago Swamper who was a school principal in Texas, vehemently arguing that teachers should be allowed to hit kids?EnochRoot wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 5:44 pm...He said, in handcuffs as he was being tucked into the back of a squad car.Pruitt IV wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 4:09 pm I read the story in the Post. Visited there with Q to see Bates - not much to add - gorgeous town - this country is beyond repair.

Twitter is less reliable than ever but it’s sounding like 15+ dead and > 60 injured. A big one that’ll change exactly nothing.

The AP says Card recently reported mental health issues, including hearing voices, and had threatened a military base in Saco. The bulletin says Card was also reportedly committed for two weeks to a mental health facility last summer.

My youngest headed up that way (staying in NH, visiting Salem) and is in a AirBNB in the woods two hours away. Momma doesn't love it.

So...the maine guy is still at large, right? Is that...are they...I mean, I know they are trying to get him, but, are they...you know...are they really REALLY trying? Military, shooting instructor, etc.

It's Maine, so maybe he hasn't broken any laws yet.

Yeah I don't think it's necessarily about remorse if the plan all along is to take as many people out as you can on your way out.tennbengal wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 6:19 pmI don’t think that guy feels remorse, so, don’t see him choosing that ending.

Maybe this should go in the Journalism thread, because good on the Washington Post for this article and photo gallery about mass shootings. I think it's really important to share these kind of stories even if I feel a little sick now.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/i ... shootings/
And as bad as these are, none of the pics show bodies (other than at a distance).

For those of you choosing to not read the article, I recommend also not reading any quotes you see on social media. I saw a few of those before reading the article and you won't want anything the sample platter.

So, the linked article is to Texas Monthly* and the article was part of partnership with ProPublica and PBS/Frontline.
Here's the Frontline if you'd rather take it in that way.

Sorry, good catch. I'm more familiar with the Monthly, which has produced some of my favorite longform articles.

Re: Guns: Infinity
I assume you're talking about Glock. They only make handguns right? I guess I fall into the camp that has far less issues with handguns and hunting rifles than military weapons or people that have hundreds of guns, even if they're handguns. Still need to make sure everything is controlled properly, but I have no problem with someone having a gun at home for protection. I've never owned one, but most everyone else I know does.
