Now I can exhale.

Thomson started using his best relievers (Alvarado / Kimbrel / Soto) earlier in the highest leverage situations. I thought that after how Francona used Andrew Miller in the most important situations regardless of the inning, managers would start doing this more in the playoffs. I don’t recall if that strategy became more popular, or I just didn’t take note of it. Does anyone remember if other teams used it since Miller?

Yankees used all their best relievers before the playoffs.

I was about to come make a reverse jinx post about how this is the Rangers' year, then Yordan hits one to Galveston.

That would be like a 4,200 foot home run in comparison which I don't think any of those Yankees on steroids ever did!

Smoltz called it a good pitch / good piece of hitting, but in reality when they showed the replay, Chapman hung an 89 mph slider on the outside part of the plate, and Alvarez could time his swing.

fwiw. and maybe this is just me and my perspective, but the Rangers going nuclear and being 7-0 so far in the playoffs is taking some of sting out of them housing the Orioles like they did.

Not for nothing, but a Rangers/Phillies series would pit two teams on absolute heaters and I would watch the shit out of that.

Everything they hit seems to fall in, pitchers turning into Bob Gibson, just an insanely well timed hot streak. They almost missed the damn playoffs entirely!

Two road wins over the Rays! Two more road wins over the Os! And now two road wins over the Astros!

They are 7-0 and have only played one game at home in that stretch.

What the actual fuck.

Between Harper's Boner in Game 2 and the Rangers being -7 in September and finishing 2-4 to blow the division, I do not want to hear about carryover momentum ever again.

This was me to a lesser extent in '07 when we were in the middle of that 21 out of 22 Rockies buzzsaw.

Where the 2 seed Phils played the Wild Card Rockies, because the top seed wouldn't play the Wild Card winner back then if they were in the same division. (Even though it was actually more fair that year since technically the top seed played the playoff team with the worst record.)

Except that they would have about 5 days off between series and that would ruin everything.

i always like ("like") to use the 2000 Yankees as the perfect antidote to that momentum nonsense. I don't remember many - let alone any decent - teams on a reverse-heater like that team over their final 2 weeks, not just losses but getting curbstomped to no end.

Then they were just like fuck it and won the Series again with little difficulty.

I appreciate that all the venues in Philly are in the same spot, but tonight is where it turns into a madhouse. The Flyers home opener is tonight at 6 pm, and at 8 pm the NLCS Game 2 is starting at the same time as a Mexico / Germany friendly.

Same.

The 07 Rockies are also a decent example, going from 21/22 to a 4-game sweep.

True, but they also had 9 days off between winning the NLCS and G1 of the World Series.
