Yeah, that was a fun read. I've long wondered how professional athletes handle their retirement and their desire to still play, even if they can't still play at the highest level. Pickup basketball and soccer is a lot of fun, but what do you do if you're that good? A typical park run probably doesn't work for you. LIke, when was the last time Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson played pickup hoops?

The US will play their first game in Paraguay, second game in Morocco, then fly back to Argentina. While keeping their home base in Portugal.

If Kim Jung-Un can gather a big enough bag of cash, I could totally see FIFA awarding it to North Korea. That'd be a trip.

According to the Men in Blazers, my joke wasn't far off. Per Rog, the day FIFA announced the 2030 World Cup, Saudi Arabia revealed their bid for the 2034 tournament and FIFA announced a 25 day deadline for other countries to put bids forward. These bids take months to prepare, and Rog thinks the Saudis were tipped off so they could prepare, and the rest of the world was given the insane deadline to ensure SA had the best bid. FIFA has a rule that a continent can't host back-to-back Cups, so the reason for the three continent bid was to ensure Asia got the bid as Europe, South America and Africa will all technically host 2030, and all 3 North American potential countries hosting 2026, so Asia is in. This certainly looks like the fix is in for the Saudis, and I can only think of one reason FIFA would stack the deck for a murderous dictatorship. Let's get the DOJ on this one again.

2024 US Open qualification round 4 is this weekend.
Sharktopus FC is the amateur team getting attention this year. Sure they have a few cup of coffee MLSers (one whose first game had the responsibility of marking David Villa), but also 2 guys who met on "Love is Blind".

Nonlinear FC wrote: Wed Jul 26, 2023 1:59 pm For those that didn't see it, this was a game btwn Wrexham what I gather was ManU's U21 or maybe the young guys on the senior squad that aren't likely to see the field much.

Either way, the goalie was 3 or 4 yards outside of his box and he absolutely trucked Mullins, who is by far the most important player on the Wrexham team (top goal scorer.)
Mullin is back and scoring goals for Wrexham. Big game this weekend against fellow promotees Notts County. (I thought it was hilarious in the documentary when they mentioned they approached their big rival about doing a segment on them for the show, and Notts County basically responded with a stream of obscenities and insults.)

Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag apparently became the first team from the Faroe Islands to win a European League Group Stage game.

They beat Olimpia Ljubljana 3-0.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

While I'm very happy for the WNT, just goes to show what a lame "search" went into filling the MNT position.

I'd have been ecstatic if she'd gotten the USMNT job. Wild to think that women's soccer is still at a place where this is possible. When's the last time a man left a top club job to take over a national team?

I think Luis Diaz should stay in Colombia for a few months to be with his dad. Does anyone disagree?

And honestly, if Darwin Nunez is any kind of teammate, he would spend those few months with him.
