That would be delightful and I would very much enjoy it. I would also have an excuse as to why I couldn't come over the next day for leftovers.

This will be year 3 of no turkey. We realized none of us liked it enough to really care about it and the whole meal is a lot of work. So instead we get a bunch of appetizer like things, cheese trays, antipasti, smoked salmon and just graze all day. And we spend the day watching movies, playing board games, etc. So much less stress and work. Helps that we never have family visit.

If I'm in Texas, I ain't eating turkey. Although I think I said it here years ago, I went to a local smokehouse and saw turkey on the menu. I jokingly asked the guy why anyone would order turkey when they have brisket, ribs, homemade sausage... He got serious and told me he thought the same thing until he tried their smoked turkey. He threw a slice on my platter and it was absolutely amazing.

For sure. I almost never go to a BBQ place and not get some white meat just because you can't do all fat, all the time and even a side like cole slaw isn't enough to fully cut it.

We do that and deep fry one turkey and do another one the traditional way. I MUCH prefer the fried version for he meal, the traditional one for our leftovers.

Up at 6am, making dairy-free Cranberry Lemon Bars for dessert tonight. There will also be an early run to store for making two trays of dressing (one diary-free) as well.

Happy thanksgiving you guys.
Pretty similar to last year, except the new puppy has everyone charmed and last year’s model is looking worse because of it.

And I ran another minute+ slower than last year’s turkey trot, but I’m dealing with a sore hamstring so expected that. Oldest ran too this year and was the first overall female finisher. She was a good minute faster than my time last year but came in the same spot overall as I did last year so I guess the race is getting faster.

About to shower and get drunk.

Happy thanksgiving swampers.

I’m actually leaning towards one of these things being true.

Is it I order the Thanksgiving special at the steakhouse and have no leftovers? Or is it I order a ribeye and save enough for steak and eggs tomorrow?

Happy Thanksgiving y’all. More thankful for this place and the people in it than y’all know.

We brought roasted broccoli, a charcuterie board, and the desserts, including a big-ass pumpkin pie.

My mom: Good lord, this pie is huge? How big do you think this pie is?

Me: Probably 3.14 pounds.

Everyone: (audible groans)

Waiting on the best brunch of the year, cleaning up after hosting last night.

I'm getting pretty annoyed about an issue that is getting worse at every gathering. The SIL (who is a sweetheart, to be clear) always asks if she can bring over appetizers. My wife, who is overly polite, doesn't ask what SIL is going to bring, so she (we) make our own array of apps. My mom brings over a bunch of fancy cheese (tradition).

So, now we get pigs in a blanket, a couple of other baked apps, and then SIL turns up and she's got 3(!) different dips, plus the cheese. By the time we get to dinner, everyone's already stuffed. My wife is like "more leftovers!," but i'm like... PPL sit at the table for 10 minutes and then want to get up because they are overly full.

Not a big deal, but I really wish they'd do a better coordinating the apps. It's not rude to ask the SIL what she's bringing over, ffs.

Our "Friendsgiving" with our Empty Nesters group had 25 people, including kids, and now grandkids. Everything was amazing, and I think I'm still full.

My 22 year-old daughter, who spent 3 months in Israel this summer, found herself being grilled after dessert by our hostess, who is a retired former federal prosecutor (who had by that point had a fair bit of wine), about the current Israel-Palestinian conflict. Proud to say she held up under the questioning.

I think that's the issue... She's a terrible cook. So we give her the app assignment, and she'll bring some pre-made "crab" dip and it's gross. So wife just factors that in, but she makes too much (IMO) to compensate.

The idea of farming out the sides doesn't work for my wife and MIL, as they are pretty particular and we really can't trust SIL with stuff like mashed potatoes or whatever.

LIke I said, SIL is a great person, she's just an unfortunate mess in the kitchen. When she entertains, she invariably serves something my wife has made, only it's gross. Like, this women fucks up deviled eggs. It's actually kind of interesting how she can take a recipe and somehow fuck it up sideways.

My wife’s cousin is like that, so my wife suggested she bring cranberries (hard to mess up) and a (store-bought) apple pie. The plan worked! (We had homemade pecan and pumpkin pie, so I ignored the store-bought pie.)

I really enjoyed Thanksgiving. Food was great. As host, I always carve the turkey. As usual, I watched a YouTube how-to video about five times in preparation and I’m proud to say I did not fuck it up!
