Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random

Post by DaveInSeattle »

Yesterday was my GF's birthday, and we met with our "Empty Nesters" group of friends at the neighborhood tavern (which is closing at the end of the month) for a drink and dinner.

After we'd been there about 45 minutes, our friend Jim, who had about 1/2 a beer, stood up and said "I'm not feeling right...I gotta get some air" and started to walk towards the door. He made it about 5 or 6 steps before he went totally ashen, his eyes rolled up, and he collapsed onto the floor.

Everyone sprung into action, including my daughter (who has wilderness first aid training) and the GF (who works in health care and just did CPR training) sprung into action. He was conscious, so they didn't have to do CPR, but we called 911, and kept him on the floor, and covered with our coats while the restaurant called 911.

The EMT's ended up taking him to the ER and monitored him for a few hours before releasing him. Still haven't heard what the issue was, but I guess this has happened before. He's in pretty good health, but he's 69, and has a defib implanted.

Pretty damn scary.

We were saying it was a very good thing we had all gotten together. His wife was out of town, so he probably would have been home by himself when it happened.

Close readers may recall my past whining about my many eye surgeries. Let's pause on that today, to consider a new adventure. About a month and a half ago, on the morning of the same day I met up with GoodKarma (coincidence?), I clumsily stumbled while putting on shorts and fell over like a fallen tree into my dresser, with my left shoulder taking the brunt of it as I attempted to catch myself on the way down. After some delay for rest but no improvement in the pain, I saw the doctor, who sent me to X-Ray, and then, yesterday, to an MRI. Now, the conclusion is that I tore my rotator cuff (and, I never even threw a curveball). The next step will be to see an orthopedist. Yay. Guess I won't be pitching in the big leagues next season.

Or maybe your surgically repaired arm will allow you to throw over 100 mph? Good luck, sorry you have to keep dealing with all these medical issues.

In my younger days people said I looked like James Caan, comedian Gary Owen, or actor Lochlyn Monroe. (Maybe even an errant John Cena too.)

But since getting out and growing my facial hair and hair long? Triple H and just yesterday....Donal Logue.

Pretty funny.
