I like to think of myself as a pretty chill person who's kind to others and wishes most people well...

...but I just spent 20 minutes laughing my ass off at this article. me:

...so yes, it was a long-ass time ago but I was in a band that opened for Live on their Throwing Copper tour and they could not have been bigger assholes (notably/especially Ed and their guitar player) to us, our crew, and everyone we saw them interact with; by far the worst I ever worked with, I don't even know who would be next in line.

Ed K might have come out best in the story just from the lack of access. Assuming he doesn’t actually support the sexual assaulter.

I think I’ve whined about this before but they were supposed to do a set at my college’s spring picnic, 1994 so just as they were hitting, and it sprinkled that afternoon and they refused to play. So get ‘em max!

I always thought Live was shit. I can't stand that Lightning Crashes song. It's unfair to lump them with Everclear and Filter who were much better bands.

That Princess Bear is paying for my kids’ college tuition. Change Beanie Babies out for Dominion voting machines and he sounds exactly like Mike Lindell.

When my wife and I first started dating, her childhood room was full of her mom's BB collection. Every shelf, every surface, everywhere. It was a running family joke for a long time. I really don't know (or maybe knew and forgot) what she did with them when she downsized and moved.

When I went to Asia back in 1999 two or three of the women that went came home with trash bags full of knock off beanie babies. They thought they were going to get filthy rich. And who is the one that gets stopped at customs at LAX. This guy.

Also, Don West is an American Icon. Do not disparage his good name by linking him with Alex Jones. I didn't hear one damn conspiracy theory or false flag narrative out of his mouth. Don just loved to sell memorabilia and call wresting matches. RIP Don West.

My son was born in 1996, and his aunts in Chicago (where I think the craze kind of started) sent him a bunch of Beanie Babies. He loved them and we - and grandmothers etc.) kept buying them.

Must have had like 40 at one point. My sister-in-law was shocked when she saw him chewing on the ear of one of them - she claimed that it was worth hundreds. We laughed, figuring that it would be worth $5 in a few months. And it was.

But if it wasn't the early days of the web, we probably would have cleared a couple of hundred bucks by selling them, but it didn't seem worth it to take his toys away.

I believe comedy is going to be the final frontier for AI to conquer. Simple parody maybe, but it's going to take a relative long time to understand sarcasm first of all, and then to craft humor that's actually funny and incisive? That's something I predict is far off.

Fully agree, but there is going to be a ton of unintentional comedy along the way. Like the AI attempt at a beer commercial. That was incredible. I could see eventually writing jokes being successful occasionally, but not telling jokes or comedic acting.

What even is Republican humor anyway? First of all, the vast majority of them are too dumb and/or emotionally stunted to understand sarcasm. And the more salient point is that humor is mostly derived from punching up. Punching up can make you a prick, but one that speaks truth to power. Punching down just makes you a piece of shit.

Like I'm picturing a Republican joke like:

Q: What do you call 5 black suspects getting shot by police?

A: A good start.

I asked for the book for Xmas so I'm hoping that Dec 14th date is the start of a nice long window to participate.

By the way, for I think $28 you can also sign up for the yearlong sports league. It's 10 questions a week for 48 weeks, but only your top 24 count so you don't have to remember every time. Takes like 5 minutes. I might be doing okay in the season that's about to wrap up.

I'm Team TB. Hair metal was awful even at the time. And the copycat trend of them all making rock ballads with black-and-white videos was probably the nadir of the whole thing.

AB isn’t comfortable wearing his heart on the polyester sleeve of a wide-collared shirt with less buttons buttoned than not. He prefers to hide his feelings, letting them out between bouts of plastic sound via the acoustic guitars and soaring double-harmonies of a power ballad.

We see you AB. And we love you for you.
