Yes, by his choice.

Referenced in the other thread, but I think this is own-threadworthy.

Just wonder how different the landscapes of the College and NFL would’ve been if the Dolpins’ MD signed off on Drew Brees’s shoulder and they went with him over Culpepper in 2006.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

It really is pretty staggering what he did at Alabama. To go there and deal with the legacy of Bear Bryant, who is a close 2nd to Jesus Christ in much of that state, and not only match, but potentially exceed Bryant ... well, it's hard to think of a comparable coaching job.
Totally Kafkaesque

I think I mentioned this, maybe not, but the day that Dave(?) Shula was fired I was instructing a class in Birmingham. One of the guys pulled me aside and let me know that no one would be paying any attention for the rest of the day so just stop and double up the next day. I just looked and he was the last full-time coach before Saban so now maybe I feel younger since I don't follow college football and I had no idea he'd been there 17 seasons.

I am amused by knowing there are Alabama fans out there happy he retired because he lost two games in each of the last three years.
