Ehhh ... if at the end of the WJC someone tried to ballpark Gauthier's trade value, it wouldn't just be Drysdale and a high 2nd. Its obv not losing him for free, but they're worse now than when their fan woke up today.

Don’t sleep on Drysdale. He’s had some injuries, but he’s good.

I'm sure he is, I'm just going off all the Gauthier scouting reports which seem to say he's a lock first line wing or 2C. That's a lot more valuable than a PP QB on the 2nd pair, no?

Drysdale is excellent, but he’s got a history of injuries, plus- I wonder what his true ceiling is. Gauthier is going to be a top-line star, no doubt about it. Ducks can afford to make this trade because they are loaded on D with Mintyukov, Zellweger, and Luneau,

so i got suckered into going to the Sabres v Canucks tomorrow afternoon.

counterpoint: on Monday i'm (supposed to be*) driving down to Pittsburgh to take my daughter back to Pitt and have tix for us to see the Pens v Kraken. Have never been to a game in Pittsburgh and am probably going to cry seeing in person what legacy a formerly-shitty-and-bankrupt franchise has built.

*this storm had better move through fast. otherwise anyone wanna buy some Pens tix :P

just a shout-out to the Penguins and their fans - we had a blast at the game yesterday and ppl were great. Also a special shout out to this Crosby fella for scoring two goals, who has been my daughter's favourite player since she's been aware of hockey.

Maybe the locals can corroborate - PPG Arena upper deck seems more steep than most other modern arenas? I remember the classics (The Aud, Le Colisee, MLG...) where the upper decks were staggeringly/dangerously steep but that was the attraction - gave a great view. Only difference in those were that they hung over the lower bowls so were physically closer to the rink.

I'm not big on "everything is easier now" and MAF seems like a good dude, but that's a pretty messy stat with the shootout now.

Caps with a 2-0 win over the Ducks the other night. Second goal was into an empty net.

It's pretty surprising, given their stats on offense, that they are even close to a wild card spot. I said it very early... This team is just very tough to watch. It's nice that they aren't hanging a bunch of kids out to dry and running around losing by whopping margins. They are pretty disciplined for a young'ish team.

But, man, it is very hard to watch.

And now they pretty easily handle a mediocre Blues team.

* Their goalie play has been pretty good, especially Lindgren.
* While Ovie isn't scoring as much, he is noticeably playing helper a lot this year and is tied for team lead in points.
* Pacioretty joining after a lengthy stint on the injured list has been a pretty obvious positive turn of events. He's just good/solid and has made a moribund PP much more dangerous.
* Wilson and Oshie, after being hurt early, have rounded into form.

I'm still not convinced this team makes the playoffs, but they are buying into the coach's system and seem to be clicking.

Looks like the Oilers are signing Corey Perry, recently drummed out of Chicago. Maybe he can room with Evander Kane, and they can discuss other jerks Edmonton could sign.

My wife's coworkers had an outing at what turned out to be a pretty entertaining VGK/NJD game last night and besides wandering around until I found a food counter serving a hefty plate of made-to-order disco fries (think NJ poutine) for only $10 the best thing I saw (non-game action category) was this:

I've always thought that Dube was involved. He was the captain and was at the event with a handful of others.

Grasping at straws maybe but could Dube being out for mental health specifically means he might not be one of the 5 being charged? Carter Hart for example was given a leave of absence. Maybe the difference seems like it might mean something?

Because if they're using "mental health reasons" as code for "surrendering to the police" that would be really low, even for an organization at shit as the Flames.

That's what I was thinking too. And if not, using the cover of mental health is pretty bullshit. Fuck the Flyers forever, but that statement is about the best of what you put out if your guy is about to be indicted on sexual assault charges.
