MLB June 2014

Post by wlu_lax6 »

Who on the As slept with Manny Machado's relative? Actually this is just escalation of the unwritten rules of baseball.
Clears the bench after getting tagged out on a ground ball to 3rd (throws helmet)
Throws a bat (or slipped out of his hand) after a brush back at his knee level
Whacks the catcher on the back of the head twice on follow through

Best guess: Machado went into the series w/ something bothering him (shitty year, off field) and stupidly freaked out on Donaldson. The As tried to keep fucking with him by crowding him at the plate so he accidentally-intentionally dinged the catcher. Then they threw at his knee which, in a fishbowl, is a huge no-no both location and due to his past. Then he forgot Donaldson wasn't playing 3B or really sucks at aiming bats.

Lonnie Chisenhall tonight: 5-5, 3 HRs, 9 RBI. He tied the Indians record for most RBI in one game with noted ball bashed Chris James.

Had him, Kipnis and Desmond in my lineup last night. 18 RBI between them.

Astros have won 12 of last 15. Loving this stretch.

Thanks to Yoenis Cespedes for leading everyone to not only the Jose Guillen throw, which is the best ever by a mile*, but also this Bo Jackson clip because HOLY SHIT, BURKS-RAINES-JACKSON. That OF makes Upton-Upton-Heyward look like Upton-Upton-Upton

I'm getting old because the thing that stood out to me there was that Guillen and Bo were both gunning for the only runner whereas Cespedes had a trail guy he ignored.

This beatdown at the hands of the Natinals was painful. They sure seem the better team right now, even sans Harper.

I just saw the video. There're few things in sports that makes me laugh harder than when TV switches to ballpark-wide shot 10s after almost everyone has cooled off... and you see in the background the relievers still running towards home plate.

An old guy would notice the bad fundamentals. Like when you intentionally muff the ball that is hit to you in the outfield, you should keep it a bit closer on the ground with a soccer touch or two so that you have a little more time to nail the runner. I like Puig's game in this regard. Also, it's brilliant how he cultivates a rep as an out-of-control madman so other teams will expect him to misplay balls and try to advance.

Can we talk about Billy Hamilton being potentially awesome again?

Since his awful 1-19 start, he's batting .292 and his OPS is over .700 plus he's rating as the second best CF by WAR. 26th in WAR in the Majors per Fangraph's numbers.

.338 over past month. 31 SBs, 8 behind Gordon who has been on base 20 more times.

I like his chances of becoming a first round fantasy player.

Yes we can! I built two fantasy teams around Billy Hamilton taking care of steals almost by himself and was fretting quite a bit over the first month. If he keeps this up, I'll be happy. The steals will come as he continues to get on base.

Is Adrian Beltre the sneakiest sure thing Hall of Famer of the past 25 years or more? Just saw he passed 2,500 hits so he's likely to reach the magic number and with elite defense and legit power. What a weird career.

Players with more hits and HRs than Beltre ...

Hall of Famers:
Hank Aaron
Ernie Banks
Andre Dawson
Jimmie Foxx
Lou Gehrig
Reggie Jackson
Al Kaline
Willie Mays
Eddie Murray
Stan Musial
Mel Ott
Cal Ripken
Frank Robinson
Babe Ruth
Billy Williams
Ted Williams
Dave Winfield
Carl Yastrzemski

Hall of Famers when eligible:
Ken Griffey
Vladimir Guerrero
Chipper Jones

Should be Hall of Famers:
Barry Bonds
Manny Ramirez
Alex Rodriguez
Gary Sheffield

Hall of Very-Gooders!:
Harold Baines
Rafael Palmeiro

Beltre, defense alone, is a clear level above the last group. He is or should be a lock today, right?

In short, yes. He's a really weird case because he has plusses and minuses for both voting blocs.

Mediocre OBP, but elite fielding at a thin position
Big counting numbers but only 3 ASGs at a thin position (thanks, A-Rod)
Most similar to Ron Santo, but position-independently very similar to Dale Murphy
Played in Boston, but didn't make the playoffs
Memorable Latin character of the game, but Latin

Reverse Hexing As Hard As I Can

Post by howard »

I've already seen this happen, but if interested timmay (lincecum not hudson) has not allowed a hit through seven.

While the team desperately needs something to spark or turn things around, I am not sure the circus around a no-hitter is what I would order up. I'd settle for once around the rotation five straight quality starts, and a couple of Morse home runs, but that is just my way of rooting against retiring the next six padres, furthering the reverse action.
