Gene Wilder
Some great roles..Dr. Frankenstein, Jim the Wako Kid, Dave Lyons, Sigerson Holmes. Big loss
Re: Gene Wilder
I'm glad to hear he's reunited with Gilda. A very underrated actor.

Re: Gene Wilder
Boy, this year does suck for losing artists who made an impact during my growing up years. I am guessing this will be common now as I turn into an old fuck.
His Wonka will be etched in my memories until my time is done. Along with Dr. Franken-shteen and many more.
Thanks for the memories, Gene Wilder.

Shit. Second the underrated part.
Always thought it was interesting how he kind of just withdrew from active work the last couple decades.

Re: Gene Wilder
Leo Bloom, one of the greatest comic performances ever.
One of the greats.
One of the greats.

Re: Gene Wilder
But, he will live on in memes that use him as Willy Wonka.
He was so awesome in those several movies he made with Mel Brooks and those couple with Richard Pryor.

Re: Gene Wilder
I was helping take care of Gilda when she was sick, and I met him. Long before that he was a big favorite of mine. Blazing Saddles, Stir Crazy and Silver Streak. Of course Young Frankenstein. I saw all these first run in the theater, and many many times since. He could move seemlessly between being the comic focus in one scene, and straight man in the next (the look on his face when Igor says "what hump?" or when he says "No, it's Eye-gore".) Not too many folks could steal scenes from Pryor; he made it look easy. A little role, often forgotten, in Bonnie and Clyde as an undertaker. Loved his work.

One of the funniest things ever...
Re: Gene Wilder
140 characters is nowhere near enough. I hope we hear more from him.

Re: Gene Wilder
Silver Streak was my personal favorite. Underrated for sure.

Re: Gene Wilder
I haven't watched Silver Streak or Stir Crazy since I was a kid. I loved those movies though. Fantastic. And you're right (whoever that was) - Wilder actually stole scenes from Richard Pryor, which doesn't seem like it should be possible.
I'll admit to never thinking Young Frankenstein was funny though. I've only seen bits and pieces (like that tap video above) and never found any of it funny.
WIlder's Willy Wonka is one of film's all-time great characters.

Totally Kafkaesque

Funny how individual taste can vary. I absolutely love Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles. But, I didn't enjoy Willy Wonka very much.Shirley wrote:I haven't watched Silver Streak or Stir Crazy since I was a kid. I loved those movies though. Fantastic. I've seen a lot of this since yesterday. While I get the sentiment, it seems weird given he was married to someone else for quite a while, someone who just watched him suffer through one of the worst diseases out there.Sabo wrote:I'm glad to hear he's reunited with Gilda. A very underrated actor.

Re: Gene Wilder
Oh man. I thought the same thing and forgot to mention it. 25 years with his latest wife. Sure, you can argue that he only had another one because Gilda Died, but still.Giff wrote:I've seen a lot of this since yesterday. You know what you need? A lyrical sucker punch to the face.
Re: Gene Wilder
I was taken aback to realize he had not made a movie since 1991 (not counting a couple of tv movies later.) That was a quick 25 years.

Re: Gene Wilder
Watched "Blazing Saddles" tonight with my son who'd never seen it.
Gene Wilder is really good, but completely low key throughout.
And Madelaine Khan was beyond funny.
