There's a podcast that I'm into right now (Paper Ghosts - cold case true crime thing) that lists the time as about 45 minutes, but a) he does a recap of the previous episode, he runs 3 separate ad breaks that I fast fwd and 3) does a "next time" preview at the end of every episode. I haven't ever clocked it, but I feel like I carve out 10 minutes of bullshit each episode.

Only bothers me when I'm doing chores. When I'm driving it's nothing to click through that stuff.

Even weirder, I started listening driving through Saint George and we once spent two weeks together working there together on a project. She used to love The Cheesecake Factory so one night on site we drove to Vegas to eat there (two hours each way) because didn’t really have anything better to do.

What a crazy world.

It’s a story about a kid in England building a Wiki page for an obscure soccer player calling him the Honduran Maradona. They made it seem like the Wiki led to MLS signing him to a huge deal. At the end of the episode, it seemed like nobody knew about the nickname or signed him based on the false info, but the kid has been telling the story for years. Horrible first episode.

Yeah that ep wasn’t great really but most of them have been pretty good. Sometimes it depends on the subject frankly but I’ve been entertained by most.

Johnny Knoxville and Elna Baker (this American Life) humorous conversation with folks who have done things that never have been done. First episode is a pretty interesting conversation between Elna and Knoxville. 2nd episode is Travis Pastrana.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I'm really digging The Rewatchables, which is a Bill Simmons production where he and 2 or 3 other folks go back over some of the most rewatchable movies from the 80s on up through early 2000s. It goes back to 2018 so there are a ton of episodes and you can obviously pick the ones that you care to revisit.

Lots of fun categories and a tidbits like who are the various actors that were in the mix for some iconic roles.

I never really dealt with Simmons' content before, so I'm able to listen to this without any real baggage.

Exclusive: Michael Davies is stepping back from regular Men in Blazers appearances

Since 2010, the Men in Blazers duo of Michael Davies and Roger Bennett has been a huge presence on the soccer scene in the U.S. and beyond. They’ve had that titular show as both a TV show and a podcast, and have had it on ESPN and NBC platforms as well as their own platforms. And they’ve grown it into the larger Men in Blazers media network featuring many other shows and personalities. But big change is ahead there, with Davies stepping back from weekly involvement.

Davies will remain as a consultant, and as an on-air presence from time to time. But he’s moving away from day-to-day and week-to-week involvement. He told AA this week that’s partly because of how Men In Blazers has grown to a point where his regular involvement’s no longer as key, and partly because of his increasing other commitments (he’s the executive producer of Jeopardy! and of Good Morning Football, he’s overseeing the latter show’s pending move to Los Angeles, he’s the president of the Sony-owned Embassy Row, and he has a large role in other Sony Pictures projects). He said with that combination of Men in Blazers’ growth into the full media network and the other demands on him, this was the right time to step back a bit.

While not surprised to hear this, it's still feels like a shocking blow. For years, Rogers been doing all of the spinoff pods, and he's been co-hosting various pods with different people and that seemingly grows every week. It feels like Davo hasn't been there for a podcast in a long time. It won't be the same without him, but Rog has good banter with Rory and the others he brings on, but listening to them makes me feel like i'm hanging out with old friends. And a big thank you to Cerrano for pushing me into giving the show a chance. Listened once and haven't missed a single episode since. (I don't listen to all the side pods, but I do listen to most).

Yeah, I don't know if it's like.. cilantro tasting like soap to a certain percentage of the population, but it seems like Simmons REALLY bothers a segment of society. I can kind of understand not wanting to deal with Boston fan stuff, but other than that he's fine (IMO).

If you are really hurting for content, there are episodes that he's not on sprinkled in there. There's also one I haven't checked out where The Ringer editor in chief, Sean Fennessey partners with Amanda Dobbins to talk to big time movie people. It's called The Big Picture and Fennessey is pretty likable and smart.

I'm probably the biggest Simmons stan on this board, but the problem with him is his after-the-fact takes that can run counter to what he implied weeks or days prior on the same topic. (Just read the comments on any thread in r/billsmmons for people that can specify when he flipped.)

He also has that know-it-all type of personality where even if he's wrong he can rationalize why he was almost right.

And naturally his "every fan" persona is long gone because the dude owns several multi-million dollar homes in LA and has all the access a normal person doesn't.

Plus, Boston. So yea. It's not hard to skip his podcasts.
