Huh? What kind of rule is that? You can't block the bag if the ball is in the glove? So are they only supposed to do swipe tags now? And no more blocking the plate when the catcher has the ball?
You can’t block the bag. Lindor’s knee went down, forcing the runner to the OF side. That’s out.
SS/2B have been getting away with dropping their knee in an effort to field the throw. That’s apparently out now too.
As for drawing fans to the game?
Baserunners and defensive players making great plays draws fans to the game. I think this rule pushes the game in that direction.

Reasons its not totally implausible:
1. A bookie would know Ippei is the rare person who has access to that kind of money
2. Ohtani's image has been so pristine you believe "maybe he's just the best friend ever" when you absolutely wouldn't for most any other athlete
But if it does turn out its Ohtani and he tried to bury his interpreter/friend (willing party or not), that Dodgers contract becomes a huge mess, huh?
Does he really have access to that money? You're just taking his word for it. Bookies can't work like that. 4 million is a lot of money, even to rich people, and Ohtani didn't have a huge contract with the Angels, only in 2023 did he make 30 million.

Wait, which knee went down? His right knee? Would a baserunner slide that far to the inside of the bag?

I mean, its not like the bookie produced $3MM in sandwiches and sold it to Ippei for $4MM. Its a huge number, but there was no cost to it so I'm sure running on credit for a huge potential payoff can work out here. Its just bad debt, all business have it.

Sorry - I saw his right knee did go down, but it was after or around the tag (not the typical 75% of the bag taken up when the MI drops the knee while lowering his body to make the tag). The fact is Lindor was blocking the basepath as he positioned himself to field the ball. No longer allowed.

"Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani's representatives declined again Tuesday to answer ESPN's questions about which authorities they have contacted to report their allegation of theft against Ohtani's former interpreter. ESPN has been asking repeatedly for the information since Ohtani's lawyers first issued a statement last week alleging that "Shohei has been the victim of a massive theft, and we are turning the matter over to the authorities."
When asked Tuesday to provide proof that Ohtani or his representatives have reported the theft to an investigating agency, a spokesperson for Ohtani declined to comment. ESPN received no confirmation from any of the likely local, state or federal agencies that could investigate allegations of theft that they received a report from Ohtani's camp."
I guess they think the questions will go away?

Nothing gets me more excited about the Red Sox than a 10:10 pm opening day following an off-season where the one significant signing is already out for the season and the one significant trade return is injured.
At least my friend opened a bar by Fenway, so I got that going for me.
This ump in the Astros/Yankees game will have both teams demanding robot umps by the end of the game at this pace. Two half innings in a row ended on not even close called strikes.
well this is gonna be someone's new signature - bronto
