Tigers/Skubal became second team in MLB history yesterday to hold opposing team to 0 runs, 0 walks, 0 extra-base hits and 10+ strikeouts on Opening Day.

Other time was Bob Gibson in 1967.

Acuna is 50 bombs / 49 steals away from history, if you’re banking on those numbers in fantasy.

When Altuve killed the rally in the 9th you could read his lips saying “that’s not fair, I didn’t know what pitch was coming”.

The Yankees have as many wins in their last 7 games at MMP as the Astros do in their last 33.

couldn't believe when i was watching that last night that the Astros have had 17 - that's a crazy high amount, no?

Great story last night and after the game was a runaway we were all rooting for the no-no. Blanco was dominant and quick.

4 since 2022 when the rest of the league has 3 overall. That dude has had quite the week. Found out on Wednesday he was making the team after striking out 10 in 4 innings just hours after the birth of his kiddo.

Meanwhile the Jays have been no hit 8 times, 6 in the last 10 years. They have only thrown 1 no hitter ever.

Didn’t Dave Steib miss by one batter three times, including a perfect game?

pretty sure he got down to the last out on consecutive starts too.

Definitely on the list of best players not in the Hall and if he had the exact same numbers 20+ years later he might be first-ballot. Lack of wins killed him (and maybe lack of those no-nos)

From the Fun With Early Season Stats Dept., Bryce Harper added 800 points to his Slugging Percentage after tonight’s game.

I took my son and brother last night. I run the Phillies 5K every spring, so I get 4 free upper deck tickets to select games. Last night was BOGO dog night. There’s a minor brouhaha around here that they are doing this instead of dollar dog night. It was just nasty weather: cold, drizzly, and windy. We caught the top half of the 1st in our seats, then watched until the bottom of the 2nd under cover. Got a good view of Harper’s first bomb to left center. We then figured the tickets were free so leaving early was no big deal, so we got round 2 of dogs, inhaled them, and headed back.

It looked awful on TV weather-wise and my part of northern maryland backed that up. What a terrible set of days weather-wise for me to have the Reds in philly, gave it absolutely not a second glance at driving up for any of this set.

They might want to do something pretty quickly given they're on pace to finish 30+ games out of 1st in the East.

Nice reference. And like most Triple A stadiums, it’s better than the Coliseum.

As a Las Vegan I’m kind of cynically bummed they didn’t just play in our new, relatively state of the art Triple A park for four years but since I DGAF about the As and won’t even when they’re here, whatevs.

(They’re only playing in Sacto so they can keep the money for their regional TV deal.)

They plan to play in Sacramento in 2025 through 2027. Seating capacity 10,624. 325 feet in right field, 330 in left. Sounds like a bandbox to me.

Is the end game actually for the A's to play in Las Vegas? It's not official yet right? Pressure to stay in the Bay Area somehow?

Yeah, it’s pretty cool he’s still elite in the field 10 years into his MLB career…Though he was a very good 2B in the minors, who really was shifted to CF/RF because the Sox had Bogaerts at SS and Pedroia at 2B. They moved him to RF cuz they had JBJr in CF.

They got rid of him because the Sox are run by a private equity group, and not a single owner who is impassioned about his team.

As mister d has said several times pedroia should have seen the bench or a trade vs Betts in OF. Also is Bob Lobel still alive? No way he's still on TV. And they got rid of him cause $300mm. I would dump that into the best farm in baseball too. Chaim tried. Success questionable.

They got rid of him because the PEG (FSG) tied one of Chaim’s arms behind his back. Don’t sugarcoat that nonsense.
