2024 NCAA Ice Hockey Championship (Frozen Four and what not)

Post by wlu_lax6 »

So Denver over Cornell and BU over the Gophers. Today we get a Michigan-Michigan State semi and BC-Quinnipiac to play in 2 weekends.

Maine went out in the 1st round to Cornell. But they had not been in the tournament since 11/12 season. I have wondered the decline since Walsh passed away (those dominant teams from the 80s into the mid 2000s).

Michigan the only non-#1 seed to advance to the Frozen Four.

Michigan-BC and BU-Denver in two weeks.

Guess I am pulling for BC as Ryan Leonard is a caps draft pick and expectations are high for his contributions

Leonard has a shot that's already NHL-caliber and i also expect opponents - and other fans - are gonna hate him immediately.

I gave it my all. We're really having a good season, but we gotta get revenge on BC for that Hockey East final loss. Pretty good when the best player on last years team, a consensus All-American, is now the second best player on the team.

Go Blue and whatnot. I had a pretty good feeling against Sparty. It's very hard to beat a pretty good team 5 times in a row. And the puck luck in the B1G final was kind of stupidly in their favor.

As you may or may not recall my wife’s niece is a photographer for several RIT Tigers teams in their athletics department. She’s slated to graduate in May. They finished the regular season 27-11-2, and won the Atlantic Hockey Tournament before dropping their (opening?) regional semi-final round against Boston University, 6-3 out in Sioux Falls.

Will Smith of BC was the Sharks’ 1st round pick last year, so I’ll root for him. But, overall, gotta support my father’s alma mater, DU!

Do we have any actual Devils fans on here? If so, M is your team. You've got Luke Hughes, Seamus Casey and Ethan Edwards to pull for...

Duh, you are very correct. T.J. Hughes is, but he's not even drafted (and not related.)

One of the sickest assists you'll ever see, especially given the stakes.

I can't even comprehend the slowing down of your brain to think about that move on the rush - insane.

Great point and he was interviewed after the game and said the exact same scenario came up earlier and his backhand pass was stuffed... So it was on his brain to do something different if the opportunity arose.

Michigan has made the College Football Playoff and Frozen Four the last three years. No other school has ever done it.

(The last time Foosball won the title (97), the hockey team also won it all.)

Denver is ranked #3 in the country. BU is ranked#2. So, not a big upset. Go, Pioneers!

2 is still less than 3 though, right?

(I kid. But BC and BU have been pretty dominant all season so (a decent chunk) of the college hockey world was hoping for BU and BC in the final.

This BC team is stacked. First two goals tonight by Sharks’ first pound pick, Will Smith. Next goal by Flyers’ first round pick, Cutter Gautier (since traded, as you know). Next goal by Rangers’ first round pick, Gabe Perrault.

damn. :(

David Carle totally outcoached Greg Brown. That game was fascinating - I was worried about what would happen if Denver got the first goal - which they obviously did - and fk me they played a perfect game. That 2nd period especially was an absolute clinic on how to successfully shut down an elite offensive team, BC had no answer on how to retain possession, it was something else.

Then that 3rd period - BC figured something out and were relentless... not sure how widely played "The Save" by Matt Davis has been (on Ryan Leonard) but i was up and cheering for a shot that somehow didn't go in. I figured that was a sign.

Congrats to Denver for sure.

Yeah, that was a hell of a save. That kid went undrafted, so he is a free agent. Earned himself a nice contract from somebody with his play the last few days, I’d guess.

Ryan Leonard staying at BU for sophomore season instead of making a Calder Cup run this year with Hershey (or getting some time with the Caps?) They said he was NHL ready in January/
