Obviously it looked dumb from the start, but I wonder if this was the end product the whole time or if he realized halfway through that he could pivot to a dangerous piece of shit and still sell enough to the fanboys that had started to gather.

Finally saw one as well. Looks like some scrap that jawas salvaged.
Re: The Singularity
I had to drop my Model Y at the Tesla service center this weekend (the battery suddenly stopped charging). The first vehicle I saw in their shop being worked on was a Cyber Truck. Thing couldn't have been on the road for long before that.

It is such a piece of shit truck. As it moves it clinks and clanks like there's loose parts or gears. The exterior looks bad too, even before you get to how dumb the geometry of it is. The steel coating looks rusted and picks up fingerprints. Sounds like it's unreliable as hell too.

Well, I bought mine used and I try not to think about Elon too much when I drive it. There were lots of lots good engineers who really deserve the credit that everyone loves to give him. And for the most part, he built those things before he took that crazy right-turn a few years ago.

My buddy has one and we drove out to the eastern shore a few months ago and that's the first time I've been in one.
I can't stand Musk and I would still consider buying one.
The one I really want to buy is a Rivian.

Re: The Singularity
My buddy is getting a Rivian. He spent about 30 minutes giddily describing it to me on our way to Louisiana last month that I can't wait to see it.

Re: The Singularity
A coworker's former roommate who lives in CA now has a rivian and absolutely loves it.
My gall is sufficiently mitigated. Thank you for your concern.
Re: The Singularity
Several Rivians and a Polestar in our neighborhood. We are going to get an electric SUV this year, but those Rivians are pricey! Looking more likely we get a Hyundai Ionic 5 or a Kia. Nice looking, highly rated, less expensive electrics.

Re: The Singularity
I was all set to get either the Ionic or the Kia until I looked into the charging situation. If you're only going to drive local and charge at home, it's a non-issue. If you want to take trips, at this point, only Tesla has the infrastructure to support it. Of course, that may be different in California. It'll be better in a couple of years after everyone switches to the connector that Tesla uses. The charging industry can't afford multiple standards. Just settle on one and let it grow.

There are a bunch of them in town. They look cool, so I looked them up... they have some unbelievable features, especially if you go camping. Tons of gadgets built in, including a tent that goes over the bed of the pickup, lots of outlets and charging stations built into doors, even a slide out cooking station with a sink.

"That's four Lipas!!!" is something I would have wrote back when I thought Dua Lipa was a stage name and assumed, since I didn't take spanish in HS, that "Dua" probably meant "two".

Re: The Singularity
This is nuts. These guys programmed a robot dog to be able to move via an exercise ball by walking on it. They did this by training it on a simulator and used ChatGPT to help. This worked so well it worked in the real world the first time they actually tried it.

Also, IG seems to be auto-tagging posts as "made by AI," presumably using AI to do so because there seem to be some false positives.

Re: The Singularity
Parent on my daughter’s previous club team bought a Veo. A day after uploading, AI tags all of goals, shots, fouls, corner kicks… whatever you want. If you manually tag something, your game shows. Anyways, one day the father tells me he can’t believe they have an employee named Al who watches and tags the games late Sunday nights. Felt bad laughing at him when I said it’s A.I., not Al.
Their system is amazing. Tags are based on player reactions, very rarely missed a tag or made a mistake.

While he is a stereotype of a North Jersey Italian, he said Al, as in Bundy.

It wasn't really Microsoft's fault. It was CrowdStrike, a huge cybersecurity company. They put out an update to one of their scan agents and obviously they didn't test it well enough. Whoops.

Re: The Singularity
I grossly underestimated just how bad this thing is. Apparently it crashes approximately 100% of the Windows boxes it gets on - servers and workstations/laptops. They get into an infinite blue screen boot loop. The only fix is to manually boot into safe mode, delete a file, and reboot. And you can't push that policy out the way you'd normally would, because boxes never boot. And your servers are probably down anyway. It's going to be a HUGE amount of manual IT work around the globe.tennbengal wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:54 amOh my…someone is having a BAD dayShirley wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:51 amMaybe sentient, but obviously not that smart.tennbengal wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:46 am So…has Skynet gone sentinent now? That’s been my wife’s day so far. She is in charge of corporate communications. Working off her personal computer, emailing to herself than forwarding from her phone.
