And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
I think so...original stalking horse bid was a PE holding company, with a bid of $220 million. So in auction it went for a lot more.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 4:37 pmThat's good news, right?DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 2:30 pm Looks like my company has a new corporate overlord...Chapter 11 auction was yesterday.

Also, it's hopefully good that your company was sold as a company, as opposed to having its assets sold. It's easier to maintain continuity that way.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 4:39 pmI think so...original stalking horse bid was a PE holding company, with a bid of $220 million. Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
Yeah, being sold to a viable oprerating company is great, as opposed to a soulless, bloodsucking private equity buyer.

Since I don’t really have anything else going on and I’ll probably never get the opportunity again I decided to apply for a post office job for the Antarctic summer (October to April) at McMurdo Station, Antarctica and I passed the first round of vetting. So still many rounds to go but wish me luck I guess.

Very much hoping the journalism major is keeping a notebook. At least I think Brian was journalism.
My gall is sufficiently mitigated. Thank you for your concern.

Had a buddy (marine biologist) that spent time down there. Knew the folk that were in the Herzog doc. He loved it.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
We had a company "Town Hall" this morning...it was weird watching our CEO talk about being out of a job next week. But my understanding is that he and the other Senior Leadership people that are getting bounced got healthy golden parachute payouts.
Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
That's friggin cool, man. (No pun intended)

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
If I could get rid of one single term out of all the corporate buzzwords or whatever you call them that have infiltrated the workplace, it would be "fireside chat," and it's really not even close. I'd have a circle back to this orgy with synergy and put a pin in that for now if I never heard that term again.

Just announced we're having a fireside chat this month to discuss our office move. The average high temperature here in May is 83.

This is approximately the 921st fireside chat I've had in 19 years here. Still no fireplace or pit.

Re: CUBE LIFE! Office Etiquette
We are about to have the "New Start" meeting...the last time with the old Senior Leadership people, and meeting the new Senior Leadership team.
I'm half expecting our outgoing CEO to show up wearing sunglasses, a Hawaiian shirt, and drinking a fruity rum drink with an umbrella in it.

The military version of this is "piggyback."Giff wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 7:44 am If I could get rid of one single term out of all the corporate buzzwords or whatever you call them that have infiltrated the workplace, it would be "fireside chat," and it's really not even close. "Just to piggyback off of what the commander said.." says the Chief.
"Just to piggyback off of what the Chief said.." says the First Sergeant.
Other dishonorable mentions:
"Slap the table"
"A-firm" or "affirmative"
"Caveat"
"However comma"
"Tracking"
"Unsat"
and God there are so many more.

I used to one up them and say "semicolon however comma" just to be a dick with a "well, akshully" tone.
