Oh wait, Flyers don't have to pull their goalie now.

Hopefully that was communicated to Philly so they don’t bother pulling the GK at 1-1.

Really fucking crazy gamble for the Flyers to pull the goalie there. Fuck you Torts.

Wow.

Not shocking, but very unexpected the way this season played out. Youngest coach in the league has a bright future. Fixed a lot of really glaring issues with a roster that was lacking in a lot of areas.

Getting that win in the SO kind of twists the knife a bit. Would have been interesting to see how the Wings did in the playoffs.

So, I think the Caps have a better overall system to compete in the playoffs. BUT, they really don't have an explosive/elite player anymore that can do stuff that makes a true difference in pivotal moments.

The Red Wings have more explosive players, but they lack discipline and the Rangers would've worked them. Probably?

Either way, this is a pretty massive gap between the #1 and #8 seeds.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Watching the postgame and a point I alluded to sticks out. 13 dudes on this team won either an NHL or AHL cup. There's something about that experience that means something.

I'm not a smart man... So I don't really feel stupid being bewildered here.

Why were you guys saying Philly didn't need to pull their goalie at that point?? The only way for Philly to advance was winning this game in RW, no?

What am/was I missing?

Wings tied their game up with 3 seconds to play while Philly and Caps were in that time out, so at that point when they came back on ice, there was nothing to play for and no reason to just try and win the game the normal way.

God dammit...forgot about that. He was fun to watch, but definitely not worth it.

I saw the kid Celebrini play at PC last month, which I guess doesn't give me any further insight than watching him on TV, but still, he looked filthy. Hope you guys win that lottery! Him and Bedard seems almost unfair for Chicago.

Kane also committed a dumb tripping penalty in OT after getting beat and poke-checking the guy's skate. While he basically produced a point a game, I am really hoping the Wings let him walk this offseason. They need to focus more on defense and giving their younger guys bigger roles. Fully give the keys to Larkin, Raymond, Seider, and DeBrincat (with the middle two getting much more important contracts than anything they would give Kane).

Oh, I'm ready to be really, really mad these playoffs. Especially if Chytil comes back, Rempe won't initially dress and Washington should probably just go all 2021 in G1 to see if Dolan and the FO lose their minds again and force lineup decisions.

He was seeing ice time in games that mattered and it wasn't just to cover for injuries. They were a 12F team before he came up and the previous 12th F (Brodzinksi) seems to have crashed into a wall, either in actuality or in the coaching staff and FO's mind. Weird timing too since he got an extension just before becoming a regular healthy scratch. If the Chytil rumors are true, Rempe won't play G1, but I'm terrified of Chytil being out there at all and I assume Rempe would be back after an injury or if they "need a spark". Laviolette has made mostly good decisions but down the stretch with Rempe and deferring to vets over a clearly hot Jones on D are exposing some cracks.

MAF announces he’s retiring after next season and signed a 1-year extension with the Wild. It’s good that he’ll get a proper send off in Pittsburgh and Vegas.

The Coyotes organization tossed Shane Doan’s retirement banner in the dumpster and it was recovered by a fan and given back to him.

SLC seems like a fine city and they support the Jazz quite well, but, man... Quebec City must be livid at this point. And no offense to Phoenix, but even in the last game, the announcers are saying how nice it was for the fans in a 4500 seat arena to be mostly Coyotes fans, bc the last 2 times the Oilers visited is probably 70-30 Oilers fans, maybe worse.

That's astounding.

My concern all along has been that SLC is just too small to support an NHL or MLB team. But apparently our population is really close to the population of Denver when the Rockies started and the Avalanche moved in.

I'm certainly not going to claim that we deserve a team, certainly not more than Quebec City. But I am planning to enjoy the living shit out of it.

They needed for it be a western locale. Detroit or Columbus would have pitched a fit about the added travel of a shift back to the western conference.

It should be noted that the Denver area population has grown significantly these last 25 years. No sure that is expected in SLC.

1) Yeah, Houston never really comes up, but that is huge city.

2) Mostly agree with you SC, but just to point out SLC is growing in it's own right... Something like 10 percent year over year which is something like the 12th fastest/highest in the country. Denver, apparently, is calming down a bit with pop growth around 1.4 percent. I'm with you though, in just the 4 or 5 years I've been out there, it seems to have grown and I still see lots of new residential growth.

Ah, yes, beyond the heat/ice issue... You can blame the Rockets, apparently, for not wanting to share the building. (I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but I don't feel like diving down that rabbit hole.) They'd have to build an arena.

(SLC has the Delta Center which is owned by the Jazz owners.)

Tilman Fertitta (Rockets owner) would be the one bringing a team here and he owns the building. There were reports in the last couple weeks he was meeting with NHL officials, but don’t know if it had to do with the Coyotes situation, expansion, or additional relocation.

It was the former owner who didn’t want to share the arena.

I hope to god that we don't grow as much as Denver did over the past 25 years. But we are on pace to do so. But my point was that if the population of Denver was enough to support new MLB and NHL teams 30 years ago, then the population of SLC might be enough to support an NHL team now.
