I remember reading an article about Fly Williams in SI, back in the day. He seemed like quite a character. Supposedly, some of those playground legends like Fly and Earl Manigault had as much natural talent as anybody in the NBA, just never developed and harnessed it.

Fly at least played in college and then a bit in the pros. Many didn't make it off the playgrounds, often due to their drug consumption or something criminal. Retaining "amateur" status and thus being eligible to play in college was a serious question when so much money was changing hands around the NYC courts. The corrupt AAU world of today's teen hoop prodigies is far more structured and controlled than the NYC playgrounds of the late 50s and 60s. Making it from that world to the NBA was a long-shot, even for the most talented.

Connie Hawkins is another Rucker playground legend who made it in the NBA, though perhaps too late (due to knee injuries in an era where they couldn't fix them) to show his full talents. He was involved in a gambling/point-shaving case (as I recall, unfairly), tossed from college, played with the Globetrotters and some struggling pre-ABA league, all before starring in the ABA and then the NBA. Quite a basketball life. Not like the straight-and-narrow path trod by players with his talents today. He'd definitely be on my All-Cool team. And he was much more than cool. Despite injuries, he was an all-star with the Phoenix Suns. Said by some I knew in NYC who saw him play as a teen to be a better version of Julius Erving.

Also, I think I scheduled them all so that nobody's comes up on their own bye week and nobody has both in the same week (or even close, in most cases). What I did NOT attempt to do was make sure that nobody was playing AGAINST an inordinate number of their opponent's questions. Tough breasties if that happens.
