We bought my son a copy of RockSmith for his birthday the other day. This game is awesome - it's like Rock Band, but with an actual guitar and you actually learn how to play. Well, he knows how to play, but with thing, he practices WAY longer (so far).

Anyway, yesterday he asked me to give it a try. I had mentioned that I'd like to learn as well. So, I gave it a run. I went through the brief intro and then the first song - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, playing very few of the notes. It was pretty fun and I definitely started hitting more notes the second time through. But I stopped after that, because my left index finger was getting numb/sore. Well, today it's still numb/sore! Fucking guitars, man. Luckily, the Googles say this is normal and not finger cancer.

Still, it's a weird feeling. I expected the risk of blisters, not this weird numbness.

That looks awesome. When Guitar Hero came out, I wondered if something like this would emerge.

ETA: and this is one of the songs! 'B' side to Satisfaction and I much preferred this one. This is a great bass lesson.

You can do bass guitar on there as well. I read a review that talked about how you can do two people at once also. It even handles different skill levels for the two participants. It's really slick.

Actually he sleeps from like 9 to 1ish then gets fed and then sleeps until we get up around 7. Wife actually had to wake him up this morning. He's put in over a pound in the last week+ so perhaps he's just sleeping off the milk hangover.

There's a weight limit to the self checkout baggage area. It makes you move the groceries from it unlike every moment leading up to that when the self checkout register yells at you because "the weight isn't correct."

Out of habit, I went through self checkout when done shopping and picked the next register. Forgetting the amount of food I had, I chose a 15 items or less lane. It didn't hit me until I was halfway done.

48 items later, I checked out. I was on base and in uniform. I felt like an immense asshole.

I was at synagogue yesterday (and in theory, yesterday was the day the Book of Life was opened up. It closes on Yom Kippur in ten days time, and if God isn't pleased with your behaviour, you may not be inscribed. Which is bad. In theory of course)

Anyway, I sat two rows behind an absolutely stunning woman. EarIy 30's curvaceous and just a bundle of womanly goodness. ! spent a lot of time admiring her instead of looking at the Rabbi. And my admiration was a bit, shall we say, graphic.

I think I'll go write a blues song about my troubled soul.

Something about being in a house of worship that makes me obsess over attractive women. Sometimes even not-so-attractive women. I don't know if it is the sheer boredom, or the sacriliciousness of it all. Then again, the last time I attended High Holiday services I was in high school, so graphic sexual fantasies pretty much raged at all times. Weddings are the only other reason I've set foot in a synagogue or church, and oggling bridesmaids is codified into law.

What a cliché. How many dozens of blues tunes have been inspired or written in temple, during Rosh Hashanna proceedings?

I've probably posted this before, but this one mystifies me. My gym offers valet parking, and some people use it regularly. Why? You are going to work out, and you don't want to walk the 20 yards from the parking lot to the gym?

Yeah, arguably stupider than that at my gym people will "stalk" you walking back to your car for spots, though there are hundreds readily available 20-30 yards away. It must be some kind of ingrained instinct in stupid people or something.

My gym (which is also a busy tennis club) does this as well - two big lots within 50 yards or so. Seems to be busiest around yoga class time and is almost exclusively used by the women who work out while wearing a lot of makeup.

My gym in Redmond had valet parking. I found this strange when I first went. Then I learned that this was the gym that the Seattle Sonics used during the NBA lockout and it was Michael Chang's tennis club.

That reminds me of one night I went to my gym several years ago and saw a Lamborghini parked right up front. It had a handicapped hanger hanging from the rearview and it was in a handicap spot. A burnt orange Lambo. That just stuck me as one of the strangest things I'd ever seen.

That could be anything from an athlete on injury rehab with a temp placard to a handicapped person who bought a nice car.

A) Lamborghini is hardly the most handicapped accessible car. Anyone who can afford one surely has at least one other more practical car.

B) If you're rehabbing and/or handicapped, but going to the gym, is it really critical to use your handicapped placard to get that spot right at the door?

C) You drive your Lambo to the gym? Do you get back in sweaty?

I see a Ferrari parked at my gym sometimes. Always makes me think there is better eye candy in the parking lot than in the gym. I usually go around 8 or 9 pm on weekdays or between 8-10 am on weekends, which is probably bad times for leching.

I got my injury when I clipped the Bentley while driving the Porsche.

My driver has a bad back that makes it hard for him to walk any distance. Also, it cuts the paparazzi exposure on the way in and out.
C) You drive your Lambo to the gym? Do you get back in sweaty?
My personal trainer/supermodel dries me down after our workout.

I hope you didn't mess with the Lambo. If you ask nicely, I'll let you take it around the lot the next time I'm there.

I used to go exclusively in the morning which was great as:

a) The Yummy Mommies were all over the place. And there's something about yoga pants...

b) The vast majority of males at the gym between 8-10 are seniors. Which made me feel like a kid, and it's a real ego boost to have the best body in the locker room.

Now, I tend to go in the late afternoon/evening when there are very few women and the guys there are young and fit. Believe me, it's a much better feeling to add weight to the machine before exercising than to take weights off.

Yeah, the gym time-based demographics are pretty interesting. Back when I was a member of that Lambo gym, I usually went at night after the kids were in bed. It's a Lifetime Fitness gym - huge, nice and suburban. At night, it was mostly old dudes like me.

A few times, I didn't have work for some reason and went in the morning after dropping the kids off at school. Totally different crowd then - crowded and full of moms. Many of the moms were pretty hot.

Rarely, I went after work and then, the gym was REALLY packed and had more general diversity, but it included a lot more of the Serious Workout crowd.

My current gym is a hole-in-the-wall place mostly full of working dudes (I guess because I go at lunch), many of whom compete in powerlifting. No eye candy at all.

We go to Lifetime as well. Cost is prohibitive to the younger folk, though I doubt too many youngin's live in my area anyways. Other than Bronto and BSF, I don't know any single people who buy a house and move to the 'burbs. Due to rapid growth in my office, I am being forced into a desk share situation, which means I will be working from home more. I may have to switch my gym time to right after dropping off the kids.
