You can look at it how you want, and oviously they are good, but they weren't making plays that looked awfully similar to plays I've seen them make in my admittedly small sample size and which seemed to be the point of the Grantland article about them.

They gave up 15 hits in the 360+ innings they played together this year. They haven't been as good in the World Series.

I agree

The last team to trail the World Series 3-2 coming home, win Game 6 but lose Game 7 were the 1975 Red Sox (Fisk home run)

Since then the following teams trailing 3-2 coming home who won Game 6 have won Game 7 as well.

82 Cardinals
85 Royals
86 Mets
87 Twins
91 Twins
01 Diamondback
02 Angels
11 Cardinals

In most of these cases, the road team lost Game 6 in heartbreaking fashion.

another question, (i seem to have many questions today)

What makes Baumgarner succeed in the playoffs and Kershaw fail? Are they fundamentally different? To me they're both left-handed and nasty but I'm not studying it that closely.

Small sample size in my opinion. Over 32-34 starts their stats would probably equalize.

I had a sense of the importance of the road team winning game 6. I had no idea the count was so one-sided. Maybe a five-run lead for the bully to protect will suffice. This time.

And the only home teams to be down 3-2 and lose Game 6 in that time frame are the:

1978 Dodgers
1992 Braves
2003 Yankees

I went back and looked. Since 1920, home teams in Game 6 that entered trailing 3-2 are 23-7 in Game 6. The winners are 13-10 in Game 7, which means that it's obviously been a significant trend turnaround recently.

Small sample size and all, but based on that, the Royals have a 43.3% chance of winning the Series.

I was in attendance at two of those (LA and NY). Thus, if I don't get to KC this afternoon, all is lost!

Yeah, I just put some more cash on them at +235 (to win the series). If they win Game 6 I might hedge some of it back, but I really think if San Fran doesn't win tonight they don't win the series.

Geez, Peavy is making good pitches, none of these three hits were ripped, Belt usually snags that ground ball double by Moose. One in, two on, none out in the second.

Peavy didn't back up home, second failure to cover a base. Excellent ABs by Perez and Aoki. Hook. Petit time.

ETA: ah, because Krukow is much smarter than me, he just pointed out Peavy did not cover first because he thought Belt would have to throw home, and Peavy was avoiding getting in the way of that throw. But runner on third (Mous) did not break. Inches and subtlety.

After winning their first eight postseason games the royals have followed up by playing just .500 baseball.

Food for thought.

If Madison Bumgarner gives up 52 straight HRs, he'll still have a lower career postseason ERA than Jake Peavy.
