Doesn't that make 2 swampers who have made their way into major-sports management? So basically just a matter of time before I am GM for my beloved Sabres.

I believe you are correct. CforC headed to the Pirates in an analyst position - further proof at how forward thinking that front office is - saber-focused in any event. And with Maddon about to land in Chicago - it looks bleaker and bleaker for the Reds. They just don't have a management team who seems to get how to build in the 21st century.

Brian's line about the same pitcher getting both the win and the save (MadBum could've gotten either; it was the official scorer's decision) got me thinking...

I know the rule is that the pitcher who records the save can't be the winning pitcher, but what if he never actually left the field of play? Say some really strange set of circumstances that MadBum started and pitched the first 6 innings, leading 2-0. In the seventh, for some strange reason, they left Pence pitch, but instead of pulling Bumgarner, Bochy says fuck it, and plays Bumgarner in RF. Pence pitches a scoreless 7th and 8th, and in the 9th, they switch back with Bumgarner pitching a scoreless 9th and the Giants win 2-0. Would he be credited with both in that case?

Lost in the legend of Bumgarner, Jeremy Affeldt now has gone 22 consecutive postseason outings without giving up a run, trailing only Mariano Rivera at 23. And he was obviously the critical bridge last night, got them from Hudson to Bumgarner without giving up anything.

The four series games I watched on TV, I was able to mute Buck and Harold, and listen to the Giants' radio team. MLB network is replaying the game now, with Buck and Harold. My goodness, this sucks and I know how it turns out. You just don't need to talk so damn much.

Man, I love Jon Miller, Krukow, Kuiper and Dave Fleming. I'm gonna miss 'em until March.

I thought that Harold Reynolds was a disaster. There were a couple of times that he had good points (like when he noticed that Peavy yelling was probably the reason Belt didn't get the out at first in Game 6), but it was so hard to wait for them.

They got too caught up in 'history'. Yes Bumgarner's feat was historic but by the 7th inning they were cheering for it to happen. Watch the last 2 innings and hear how excited Buck is when Bumgarner gets an out.

Something I forgot to mention. I have a close friend from childhood, Steve, who reached the bigs briefly as a pitcher for the Angels ( http://www.baseball-reference.com/playe ... st02.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )* We are still as close as brothers, and he joined me for Game 4.

He reminded me that he was a teammate of Ned Yost in AAA. They were friendly, roomed together on a few road trips, commiserated on the illogical actions of their manager. Felipe. Who was honored pregame on the field at Game 4. "I bet Yostie is smirking a little bit too."

Steve recounted a couple of Yost stories I had heard and forgotten a couple decades ago. A couple of times Steve had taken his son to ballgames where Yost was coaching, and always had a warm reception. He considers Yost one of the best guys he met in the game.

One more thing. Jeremy fucking Affeldt. jeez, what greatness.

*his b-r page has a picture of Steve in the stretch. Steve is actually right-handed, but such a pose, for one of his baseball cards, is typical.

so that truck with "technology and stuff" that Madison won? Yeah, already recalled.
General Motors has told dealers to halt deliveries of the new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups because of a pending safety recall to fix an airbag defect, just two weeks after shipments began for the high-profile launch.

In a note sent to dealers Thursday about the midsize pickups, GM said it has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of an “upcoming safety and noncompliance recall” to fix the airbag flaw. GM said that the pickups’ driver-side airbag connections “were wired incorrectly during the manufacturing process,” which could disrupt their deployment.

I will be based in Bradenton, FL and the move to said warmer climes is in process; Baltimore guys, I am around for one more trip to BBQ (or something else) if your schedules allow.

Thanks to you all for a wonderful education and support system; like many of us, I haven't been able to show my face as much as I once did in these parts, but this place has been a great source of camaraderie and knowledge that I am positive has been helpful in my borderline crazy pursuit of this dream job.
