FUCK! Lost on the last question, and Giff 2 off the lead for the best score. Probably my two best games ever, and I had to play Diamond and Giff. Great game, Giff. Fuck college football. Miami is ALWAYS a correct answer!

North Carolina. Fuck. I was racking my brain trying to remember where LT went to school. And I had the picture in my head of him in college wearing light blue. Not that it would've made much a difference.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

Whew! I misread and thought I was gonna lose on the tiebreaker.
I can't say I deserved that win, but Rass sucked just a bit more than I did. Good game?

I have to stop trying to reinvent the wheel on sports answers. Just go with what I know and accept it will be popular.

I still get to claim the highest winning score for the week. Thanks Cerrano.Shirley wrote:Whew! I misread and thought I was gonna lose on the tiebreaker.

I love how Diamond hangs up an 85 on his bye week.

Might be the first time i got all answers right.
Knee and Isaiah Thomas were total guesses.
How can Patrick Ewing be on a list of highest turnovers.. did he even touch the ball that many times?

Re: NFL Swampcrash 2014 WEEK NINE
I watched the Knicks a lot during the Ewing era, and I am not surprised at all to see him on the list. I thought about going with Ewing, but went with the obvious choice of Kidd, thinking of a point guard with a really long career. Every offensive move went to Ewing. He would post up with his back to the hoop and either kick out a pass, or fake turn right, then shoot a fadeaway jumper turning left. I practiced that shot for years, and was pretty damned good at it, compared to my basketball skills as a whole. But yes, Ewing got stripped pretty frequently and made more than his share of errant passes. If getting your shot blocked counts as a turnover, he really qualifies.degenerasian wrote:Might be the first time i got all answers right.

Re: NFL Swampcrash 2014 WEEK NINE
See at least I wasn't the only one who thought on that line. "I don't know much about basketball, but given the number of points this man scored, surely he had the most opportunities to turn it over as well." Thus the guess of KAJ.degenerasian wrote:Might be the first time i got all answers right.

It's pretty typical for the turnover leaders in hoops to be point guards and centers.degenerasian wrote:Might be the first time i got all answers right.

Re: NFL Swampcrash 2014 WEEK NINE
The question about turnovers was interesting. I had no idea that centers were so often high on the list. And I'm astonished that only one person picked Kobe. He fit the obvious profile of a ball-dominator with a long career. And the clue that one guy was still active -- who else but Kobe? I know this is a point of controversy in other contexts, but I'd say that Kobe is most definitely a Jordan.
Re: NFL Swampcrash 2014 WEEK NINE
I thought I crushed this thing. A hockey question where Gordy Howe was an answer. Knowing a soccer coach who was once a rugby player for Wales. Even having so few people jump on the Lawrence Taylor answer -- the only remotely easy one in the top 10.
Chance was truly favoring the virtuous. Until this Cheddah explosion blew me up. I have no idea how someone who thought Zach Greinke faced Pujols over 50 times -- weren't their careers almost orthogonal? -- could end up with such a great final score. But there it is. I lay weeping, in the dust.

Re: NFL Swampcrash 2014 WEEK NINE
To you it may be friendly. You didn't lose. But me, I'll be up, tossing and turning, wondering how I could be thrashed by someone who thought Zach Greinke pitched to Albert Pujols 50 times.
Re: NFL Swampcrash 2014 WEEK NINE
I haven't looked it up, but I'm assuming 'orthogonal' means 'surprisingly well-correlated because of not one but two interleague rivalry matchups'. They faced each other 34 times.

To tell the truth, that's not exactly the meaning I had in mind.Ryan wrote:I haven't looked it up, but I'm assuming 'orthogonal' means 'surprisingly well-correlated because of not one but two interleague rivalry matchups'. They faced each other 34 times.
They've been in different leagues, except for perhaps one or two season, so there is no chance Greinke v. Pujols is a frequent matchup. I'm a bit of a baseball codger, so I don't really accept the alleged fact that there are inter-league games before late October. Is there such a thing as a 'rivalry' designation that gets these so-called games scheduled with greater than random frequency between two 'rivals'?
If so, yet another way they are ruining baseball. Maybe they should just go to 20 team play-offs, so baseball's regular season means as little as basketball's, and is twice as long.
