So, the Minnesota paper has launched an investigation that seems to exist just to dig up dirt on Adrian Peterson. Most of it is heresy and shrug worthy. But here - the Toronto paper edited out the "yeah, so?" stuff - is where Mr. Peterson is going to get in real trouble. Sounds like fraud to me...

Are we not even gonna bother with any more Adrian Peterson? Going to jail tomorrow.

Guess Jerry Angelo isn't looking for a job with ESPN. He claims that he and the rest of the NFL covered up hundreds of cases of domestic violence.

Julius Thomas fined $8,300 for diving at the side of Calais Campbell's knee and injuring him. Burce Arians (biased to be sure) called it the dirtiest play he has ever seen on a football field.

Colin Kaepernick fined $10,000 for wearing Beats headphones and not Bose ones at a post game press conference.

The Union is pushing back against Goodell, but hard to see how making a principled stand on the shoulders of a child abuser will play out in the court of public opinion...

I read the Peterson press release and completely agreed with him. Any competent organization knows to follow the established protocols when the shit hits the fan, unless you have a leader called the sheriff.

Apparently the protocol involves producing a PSA of football players sounding angry as they denounce the abuse of women, and little else.

Does AP get into Canton? It seems likely he returns next year. If he has another productive year or two, his on field performances, especially coming back so quickly and dominantly the year after an ACL tear certainly warrants getting into the HofF. Does child abuse keep him out? My guess is that if he has another 2 years of great performance, everyone forgets about it. Look at Vick, for the most part the only people holding a grudge are people who don't watch football. Football fans discuss his lack of durability more than anything. If AP never plays again, he probably doesn't get into Canton, as this taints his legacy.

Hes in. AP is probably the best back since Barry Sanders. This is not at the level of something to keep you out the HOF. They will have long since forgotten unless another dead kid shows up.

He will come back and be an advocate against child abuse and his image will rehabilitate. if he can play a couple of more years with decent production I think he's in.

I don't know about the advocate part. He maintains that hitting kids is good parenting and his actions weren't child abuse, but causing nasty lacerations on a 4 year old's genitals made him "feel bad." I know he will come back, just threw that possibility out there for discussion.

I hope the first question for Jerry Jones at that press conference is:

But it's not about the child's pain, it is about Peterson's pain...
"No one knows how I felt when I turned my child around after spanking him and seeing what I had left on his leg," Peterson said. "No one knows that Dad sat there and apologized to him, hugged him and told him that I didn't mean to do this to you and how sorry I was.
So there is the story that the media and the haters refuse to tell - both Peterson men were victims that day.

"And immediately my son asked me 'Daddy, does this mean you won't be able to play football anymore? I sure hope not because what you did wasn't that bad and you didn't mean it and I love it when you play football.' and I didn't know what to say to him because we were both very sad and I was sad for the exact reasons Mr. Goodell wants me to be sad."

Pruitt and D nailed it. I know AP is remorseful about missing a season and having to plea to a crime and go through the media circus. I don't doubt that he regrets the extent of the injuries he inflicted on a friggen 4 year old. He said he would never use a switch again, but he didn't say he wouldn't continue resorting to physical punishment. The remorse and injuries he discussed were all about him, and I am sure he was heavily coached on apologizing, and his handlers are should be really pissed. If they are worth a damn, they would have trained him to mention how remorse for putting his son through that.

I think until there's a full transcript that it might be that the media pulled those parts out. He gave a 90 minute interview...what else was said and did it involve the feelings of the kid?

My overall opinion is it doesn't matter what he says for the rest of the 90 minutes because (1) its undoubtedly coached and (2) its mere words offered post whipping-the-fuck-out-of-his-child. Same as Michael Vick should have known murdering dogs was wrong and bad despite growing up around it, Peterson should have known whipping a toddler was wrong and bad regardless of how he was raised.

If he averaged more than 3.1 yards per carry last year, he'd be signed already.

But my feeling is that no one goes out on that limb until the off season. Especially now that the NFL is airing those absolutely ridiculous ads of Cris Carter tearing up. Saw it yesterday and I reran it to be sure that I wasn't experiencing some bizarre acid flashback from my university days.

It may be sincere and he may have the best intentions but man alive, he is meme-worthy now.

I quoted a source in July as saying Janay Rice made a moving case for leniency for Ray Rice during the June 16 meeting. My source was incorrect. According to Judge Jones' report, Janay Rice was asked only one question during the hearing—how she felt—and she cried and said, "I'm just ready for it to be over." I regret the error, and should have vetted the story further before publishing the account of one source.
Now if you're Peter King, and you report that the main reason for the leniency on Rice was his wife's plea to Goodell for leniency, and then that turns out to be as wrong as wrong can be...why do you care about that source? Its not like you'd ever use that source again. Just give up and publicly name the source, right? So there's one of two possibilities here...

1. The source is Peter King's lying brain.

2. The source is...

TB?
AB?
Delaware?
Pruitt?
Anyone?

A journalist is never going to publicly burn a source that gave him bad information though, so I don't know what you're expecting. If you assume that's what happened (NFL source really did give PK bad information), it's not like he's going to say in his column that Joe Schmoe is a lying dick.

If King got beaten by a source he wouldn't give up that source out of fear of jeopardizing his relationships with other sources. He's a terrible person and a massive part of the problem who I imagine honestly believes he's not a terrible person and massive part of the problem.
