Yeah just sick. Ball was thrown 50 yards and he snatched it like nothing.

Typical, Eli getting bailed out by his receiver.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

"The ball couldn't have been placed better," Beckham said. "The placement makes it a lot easier to do something like that."

Even if I hadn't been rooting against the Browns yesterday, I would have been offended by Mike Smith's clock management as a football observer.
That was beyond awful.
Even Marvin Lewis would have been appalled.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
AB...the capper was, he leaves Cleveland with all their timeouts, and then, and THEN, to compound his mistake, he has them in a D which gives vast yardage in the middle of the field to protect the sidelines. Except, Cleveland had all their timeouts, so Cleveland didn't need sideline routes to stop the clock.
The entire sequence, from burning their own timeout rather than making Cleveland burn one, to the 3rd and 2 call (a back shoulder fade to Devin Hester 20 yards downfield? Really? REALLY?), to the defense after Cleveland got the ball back - that was a series of the most incompetent decisions I have ever seen a head coach make. And, again, I root for a team coached by Marvin Lewis, I know from my incompetent clock and game management decisions.

All I saw of that game was the last minute or so - when the Browns started the final drive, they finally switched from the end of the Bengals-Texans game.AB_skin_test wrote:It was terrible.tennbengal wrote:Even if I hadn't been rooting against the Browns yesterday, I would have been offended by Mike Smith's clock management as a football observer.

First thing I heard was the announcer questioning Mike Smith's time out to set up the field goal, followed by the colour guy (Tasker maybe?) using much stringer terms for the craziness of the time out. He then mentioned it repeatedly and after Cundiff's kick went through, brought it up again. For the bland network honks to harp on it, it has to be really bad.
And that Beckham catch was so astounding that I called my wife into the room. She cares little about football and usually by 10:00 on Sunday night resents the sport, but she had me rewind the catch 4 or 5 more times. Every week, we see amazing athletic feats - John Browns in the Cards game made a fantastic grab yesterday as well - but this one we will see as often as the Tyree grab. It will be famous long after anyone remembers how crappy the Giants are/were.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
My new favorite thing ever was Mike Smith's explanation of why he rushed to call a time out:
The best. Just the best. Don't ever change, Mike Smith."It I hadn't, Cleveland would have."
Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
The Mike Smith meltdown suprises me a little bit, b/c I thought he at least in the past knew game situations. I remember him going for it on 4th quite a bit the first few years of his coaching, and it being the correct statistical call. Unfortunately for him, they didn't seem convert them regularly, even if they were just 4th and 1. Undertstaning we should judge coaches by process and players for execution, I thought he would have been in that newer wave of coaching optimally. Guess I was wrong.
And yes, I was in Belichick's camp when he went for it against Manning and the Colts. I thought it was the right call. The play call itself was shitty.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
It wasn't that he went for it, L-Jam. It was 3rd and 2. They were going to run a play. They ran a crazy one. And that they burned their own timeout to come up with such a shitty play is even more awesome.L-Jam3 wrote:The Mike Smith meltdown suprises me a little bit, b/c I thought he at least in the past knew game situations. Should they have gone for it on 4th and 2 instead of kicking? Maybe. Course, they probably would have thrown an end zone jump ball, so why bother.
Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
Wait, were you talking about Belichick or Smith? When I referenced Belichick, I was talking about when he went for it on 4th and 2 at his own 28 instead of punting to Manning in 2009.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
Mike Tomlin once called a timeout while his team was on offense just to give himself more time to decide if he wanted to challenge a play that he shouldn't have even been considering challenging and then challenged it anyway and got charged with another timeout after inevitably losing the challenge.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
The last play the Browns ran before the FG was a bit risky. An 11 yard pass down the middle with 16 seconds left. They had to rush up to the line to spike it with 4 seconds left.
But yeah that entire drive was passes up the middle cause they had 3 timeouts left.
Smith once went for it on 4th down on his own 25 in overtime against the Saints. Even if he makes it he might not gain anything. I believe Belichick went for it on 4th down because a 1st down would have won the game.

And the Pats were playing the Colts in a shootout of a game - Manning was slicing the defence apart.degenerasian wrote:The last play the Browns ran before the FG was a bit risky. An 11 yard pass down the middle with 16 seconds left. They had to rush up to the line to spike it with 4 seconds left.

(Still didn't like the play, but compared to the Smith call cited earlier, it made a lot of sense).
And Mike Smith's reasoning for calling the time out - that Cleveland would of if he hadn't - will be put on the tombstone that marks the end of his coaching career.

And young Jonas Gray just learned that Bill Belichick is a bit of a stickler for rules.

Re: NFL 2014 Week 12
Even if he wasn't late, I doubt he would have gotten much run anyway. Blount's homerun threat is more suited to face that front 4/7 than Grey's 3-4 and a cloud of dust.Pruitt wrote:And young Jonas Gray just learned that Bill Belichick is a bit of a stickler for rules.

Manziel is some sort of scuffle late Friday night.
Also, Manziel's gf on twitter calling for Hoyer's benching.

My best friend's brother and nephew are huge Bills fans, so they were pretty psyched about the game being moved to Detroit. They're down by the 50 yard line.

Do non-AFC East fans hate the Jets? I can't imagine why. That seems like hating the Chargers or the Bengals or something.Sabo wrote:Considering the opponent, that shouldn't be surprising.brian wrote:Sounds like a solidly pro-Buffalo crowd.

Oh, I just realized this is the Recently Failed Lions Head Coach Bowl. Jim Schwartz (Bills D) vs. Marty Moronwig (Jets O). I like Schwartz to get the better of this one.

Holy crap are the Jets ever bad. Not exactly a news flash, but they were clearly not ready to play this game.
