So vk.com is Euro only FB or something? Apparently this is the still alive suspect's page. That video on the right sort of looks like the other suspect (his brother?).

Could be a hoax, and unconfirmed, but:

Local CBS news showing an interview with a friend of these guys that these two brothers went to high school here in the states.

Older guy was a Golden Gloves boxer ("asked to go pro many times"). Younger brother was a wrestler.

He said they've been here for much longer than a year.

Was the friend named Robert A. Booey?

All taxi service now suspended.

The only vehicles I'd seen all morning have been police and taxis.

Over the scanner:

The person being searched may be wearing a suicide vest since his older brother had a switch on his person in the hospital.

i overslept and awoke to a lot of texts/etc. MBTA fully shut down (how i get into the city for work)... now Boston, my office, etc.

i have to say that hearing the details of what happened in the past ~9hrs or so is absolutely surreal. That 7-11 is around the corner from where i worked for 7+ years - down the street from a friend's apartment. I've been in there 100 times, easily. I lived in Watertown for 10+ years. Seeing 100 cops in front of the Arsenal Mall on national tv is....odd.

F'ng Watertown.

Not really adding much here i know but i'm simply trying (and failing) to process all of this.

The local anchors ("bless their hearts" as a friend of mine from GA would say) are just so far beyond their capabilities at this point.

At this point, a broadcaster needs to be more Pat Summerall, less John Madden.

And now they're interviewing the alleged uncle of the guys. Ruslan Tsarni. Said they'd been here since 2000-01.

He's saying that the father and mother moved back to Russia. This guy clearly wasn't close to them. Hadn't been in touch since 2009. Called his brother borderline illiterate.

Called the older brother Tamerlan a loser for not going to college. "Wish they never existed."

Just mumbled about Islam. And AOL. Potential hoax in my mind.

Yea. This Twitter account tweeted at the Boston PD.

Probably a fake account. The first tweet ever was from an hour ago.

Listening to that scanner feed.

They haven't said anything else about it, so not sure what the story was there. I'm not better than the broadcast news, mind you. Just pure speculation.

They just said Brian Foley. Wasn't that someone who shouldn't be named?

Man, I missed a crazy night/morning by sleeping. Chris Dornan on 'roids.

I don't remember who in the pool had 'Chechnyan brothers', but you're a big winner.

Fox just said the dead bro had 'attended Latin and Rindge high school, attended by famous people such as Ben Affleck'. Patrick Ewing sheds a tear.

Here is an old family photo of the wild and crazy brothers:

Is Chechnyan background firmly established in this family? I just heard reported one brother was born in Kyrgyzstan, the other in Russia (which I hear is a big place, but Chechnya is in Russia).

The little I have read (a couple books on Stalin) about the Russian Caucasus give me the impression of a mangled melting pot of ethnicities, stirred up by a century of relocations and other general central government mucking around. I don't even know what the term 'ethnic Chechen' quite means. You go a few miles south, and everyone's name ends with '…villi'; a few miles furhter and the names are all '…jian'.

I think that pic belongs in the Fertilizer Go Boom thread.

This is nuts. It's like a real-life episode of 24.

As someone said on Twitter, this is the week that an Elvis impersonator sending a ricin-laced letter to the president is the tenth biggest story.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

The two uncles that were tracked down by CBS are from Montgomery Village, a suburb of DC up near where I live (kind of). For folks vaguely familiar with MD suburbs, it's essentially Gaithersburg, just north of Rockville. (Shady Grove Metro stop.)

Nothing earth shattering, just thought some of you who've traveled here might find it mildly interesting.

When you're showing live footage of every move these SWAT teams are making, aren't you helping the suspect or at least compromising the safety of the officers?

Network news still stucks. Thank goodness for my ol buddy John Miller on CBS, who can fill time intelligently, with calm, reasoned speculation clearly labeled as such.
