I don't know why you're being such a dick about this honestly. You're fucking some straw man where I tried to imply that there was a fix which I never said implicitly or explicitly as anyone capable of reading comprehension could tell. You're coming off like a fucking doofus and embarrassing yourself frankly.

This?
The officials themselves said they got the call right. QED. What else do you need?
Nice try.

(And I did think it was pass interference when I saw the play live)

After calling me "fucking stupid," you're asking why I'm being a dick?

Fucking ridiculous on 1/4 and after I had unblocked everyone (though I'm glad I unblocked Mr D) but fuck it. Blocked. The worst part about Bronto is that he's too stupid to realize he's stupid.

But, as a Seahawks fan, all I can say is "Whew....". There's no way I wanted any piece of that Lions team coming in here next Saturday. That d-Line is scary, and Golden Tate is a big enough freak/headcase to win a revenge game on his own.
I understand that Tate thought he was offered a weak contract by Seattle when he hit free agency. But in the admittedly short time of his few months in Detroit, Tate seems to me to be a solid citizen and to have a strong football IQ. What is it that makes him a 'freak/headcase'?

Prior to today, I haven't seen a Dallas game this year. I was impressed with every aspect of their play. They ran effectively on a very tough run defense. They were pretty good on defense themselves. And this Romo was the opposite of the choke machine I've come to expect. Quite apart from their referee-mediated good fortune in the final quarter, they played just about as well as a good Detroit team that was on its game, and could go far.

Didn't explain what I meant....I was bummed to see Tate leave Seattle, even with all the rumors floating around about Tate and Russell Wilson's wife...

"Freak" == athletic freak who seems to make big plays when they are needed most
"HeadCase" == a guy who will work himself up to a frenzy to play his old team in a playoff game...

Got it. Very reasonable. Love the guy in Detroit. I don't know what the numbers say, but I think he's had a better season than Calvin Johnson.

What's your take on the Tate/Wilson situation?

If it makes anyone feel better, the checkout lady this morning said she was sad that the Lions didn't win because "there's something about that quarterback for Texas that I don't like. What's his name?"

Once you get past the fact that he plays for the Cowboys, Romo is probably the least objectionable NFL QB.

I'm sure this point was made upstream, but if the league REALLY wasn't going to let Detroit win, they probably wouldn't have rescinded Suh's suspension, right?

People on the Steelers board simultaneously get pissed at the Steelers for losing and think that pretty much all games are fixed.

The league can't keep anything secret for more than like a week yet they've been apparently fixing games for 40 years and no one has a shred of evidence.

It would be a real pain in the ass to fix any sport without player involvement outside of basketball.

I don't think it's fixed, I just think the referees and league officials are mostly incompetent. Which is probably worse. (I don't remember if I even remembered to mention on the same damn play Dez Bryant should have gotten an unsportsmanlike call for running onto the field to argue the call, which I don't think I even saw any replays of by Fox. Can you imagine Buck and Aikman if it had been Suh running on to the field to argue a call? <shudder>

Brontoburglar wrote:We can call the lack of consensus incompetence or differing interpretations, but it's pretty clear that success in the NFL can hinge on the tendencies of officials -- almost like strike zones in baseball.
I agree with this, although there are still bad calls that aren't even subjective at all that make you think (like a guy getting flagged for taunting his own teammate). I think most refs don't really understand what "conclusive evidence" means on replays. I think refs can get "worked" by coaches and players and that can affect proper officiating in the same game. One call can turn a game so easily in this league...not sure why they'd continue to throw incompetent refs out there.

With that being said, for as stupid and evil as Goodell is, I can't for the life of me imagine why he'd ever risk having his refs fix any games. That seems like setting yourself up for disaster. Although I suppose it didn't kill the NBA.

Refs are not full-time employees AND they aren't working with their regular crews during the playoffs. Fix those two things and I think it would be better, but never will it be perfect.

Not asking for perfection, just competence and consistency. I don't think the NFL has any interest in really improving the product on the field. They make billions anyway, why would they want to take on the referee's union? They already tried that and it didn't work out too well. As bad as the NFL refs are, they're light years better than Division II and Division III college referees.

In any event, I'm done with it. The Lions still had chances to overcome the refs and couldn't do it.

Wasn't that Steelers-Chargers game accused of being fixed years ago due to the spread which cost the Steelers fans money.

Do you guys think the NFL makes a mistake by putting in mixed officials for the playoffs. These games are the most important, lets put together crews who have never met each other.

As much as we hate Hochuli, he would have given us a better explanation of that pass interference incident.

Well, actually the Steelers would have covered but yeah that was crazy. Dude threw a lateral about 5 yards backwards, Troy intercepted it for a TD and they ruled it a forward lateral. To this day, that's a tough one to explain.

Also, I miss the days when Polamalu could make a play like that.

Well if the spread was between 1 and 8, you wouldn't have to fabricate anything, right?

Not that this would prove it's fixed but it would certainly give anyone pushing that theory all the ammunition they need.

You would need to fabricate that a lot of money was on the Steelers, which everybody did. Just throwing around "$100 million swing!".

I think Christie has been in Jones' box three of the last four games. @Philly, vs. Indy and now the Lions. Not sure on the Redskins game as I didn't see much of it.

It's always a weird Catch 22 on that... I mean, you almost want them just to stick to a plausible, yet highly suspect, explanation where they don't come out and admit incompetence.
