In 1912 there was a United States Baseball League that attempted to establish itself as a third major league but folded after about a month. The league leaders during that abbreviated season were a team called the Pittsburgh Filipinos.

Neil Young was in a band with Rick James before either were famous.

Oh yeah. Neil and I think bass player Bruce Palmer were set to tour with Rick James, but he got thrown in jail for AWOL or draft evasion or something. So Neil was free to go out to LA, and start the Buffalo Springfield.

Funny, I just learned that, too. Received two different Neil autobiographies for Christmas. Interesting guy. Did you know that his father was a famous Canadian writer/broadcaster. At one time, his father was the guy who did between-periods interviews and commentary each week on Hockey Night in Canada (The most watched program in Canada for decades.)

Yeah, to backtrack on my Wikipedia trail.

1. I hear Public Enemy's "He Got Game" on Pandora and I wonder who's the guest singer.
2. Wikipedia says it's Stephen Stills, which sort of surprises me (doesn't sound like him to me).
3. He's singing parts from his Buffalo Springfield song "For What It's Worth." I decide to click on Buffalo Springfield.
4. In reading about the origins of the band, I saw the tidbit about the Mynah Birds and wondered, that Rick James?

So yeah. Yes, you're right that the Mynah Birds didn't work out at that point because James got arrested and deported (from Canada) for going AWOL from the Navy.

Another thing I learned - Jim Messina was also in Buffalo Springfield.

Messina went on to head Obama's re-election campaign. In honor of his achievements in music and politics, the Italians named a city after him.

The leading rusher for three of the remaining eight teams in the playoffs (and the second-leading rusher for a fourth team) all went to the same college.

The California Golden Bears. (Marshawn Lynch, Justin Forsett, C.J. Anderson, and Shane Vereen.)

so when i woke up this morning, my heat wasn't working. we have the boiler insurance with pse&g (gas co.) so they came out at 12 and the guy seemed to remedy the issue pretty effectively. we had heat going, well, until we didn't. which we discovered 10 min. ago. same problem this morning, and we can't get service until noon tomorrow.

this should be fun.

Mark Schlereth urinated on the field, through his uniform, during every football game he ever played. And, according to Julie Foudy, women soccer players squat and pee on the pitch during games.

Landon upset most of Mexico for peeing on their field. A bit easier for a guy with the take a knee approach.
